New article "Trends in information behavior research, 2016–2022" by Isto Huvila and Tim Gorichanaz available #OpenAccess at https://lnkd.in/dZCRWrJ6 The authors, both known for their theory-driven research, look at the broader landscape of information behavior studies and uncover an interesting trend: while theory is a focal point at major conferences and in leading journals, most of the published work in this field is atheoretical, centred around questionnaires, reporting figures with descriptive statistics. But does this mean atheoretical research is less valuable? Not at all. The authors argue that such work is crucial for addressing specific community needs, informing policy, and providing a foundation for future theoretical developments. There are significant opportunities for scholars to engage with and build upon this body of work, especially in fostering more inclusive and accessible platforms for theoretical discourse. #InformationScience #InformationBehavior #TheoryDevelopment
