PTSD Awareness Day, observed annually on June 27th, serves as a crucial reminder of the challenges faced by those suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, particularly within the military community. Many veterans and active-duty service members experience PTSD due to the traumatic events encountered during their service. This day aims to educate the public about the symptoms, causes, and treatments of PTSD, fostering greater understanding and empathy. It highlights the importance of recognizing the impact of combat and military-related trauma on mental health and supports efforts to improve access to mental health resources for service members. By spreading awareness, PTSD Awareness Day helps break the stigma surrounding mental health issues in the military, promoting a more compassionate and supportive environment for those who have bravely served their country. PTSD doesn't just affect those struggling with it, but their families, friends and co-workers as well. It's as frustrating having and living day to day with PTS as it is for those who are desperately trying to understand and support them. Without the proper education and support for those around them it can easily compound issues and have negative consequences. It's important to remember that both sides are working towards a common goal. Here's one resource for family members and others in your support network. If you have or know of other resources, please feel free to share them here. If you click the link you'll also have access to a brochure Understanding PTSD: A Guide for Family and Friends
