Medals, trophies, and certificates-they shine brightly, often held up as symbols of success, and it's easy to get caught up in the hype. But what is it that we’re actually seeking when we chase these accolades? Is it the academic validation? The applause from others? Or something deeper? The same can be said for graduating "on time". There's this unspoken rule that if you finish within the designated four years, you’ve somehow won at life. But I've met people who graduated right on time, and the truth is, no one really remembers or cares. Yet, if someone graduates a bit later, there’s suddenly an audience, ready with opinions—opinions that often reflect their own insecurities rather than the person’s journey. And then, there’s also the question of whether graduating at all even matters. I’ve met people who stand by this idea-that the degree itself doesn’t determine success or worth. This all ties back to a bigger issue: the constant comparison we make between ourselves and others. Whether it's someone else's medal, GPA, or job offer, we start to measure our own worth against their achievements. Obviously, someone else’s success doesn’t diminish our own progress. In the end, maybe the question isn’t when or how we finish, but rather why we’re in the race at all.

LENNA' MYLES, MBA gave an excellent presentation last night to the MBA's about always betting on you, never any job or company or other human being. Bet on you. Lenna's bets on herself started a long time ago. She went to college on a soccer scholarship. In her senior year, she gave it up. Her coach, her peers couldn't understand why. They assumed something had to be wrong. Nothing was wrong. Lenna wanted to experience what it would be like to be just a regular college student without the constant obligations of soccer. So she did. Lenna's been out of college a long time. But, she still plays soccer on an adult team. People don't have to understand why you're doing what you're doing. As long as YOU understand, that's what matters. Too many trap themselves into needing other people's approval (including family) to change job, go back to school, move away, change careers, start a business, or anything else. They end up never making a true change because they don't truly believe in themselves. That's a source of unhappiness. You owe no one any explanations for what you makes you happy. You're not on this earth to live for other people's expectations of you. You're here to do what works for you.
