🦫 As we have seen, wildfires continue to rage on in parts of California, many people are searching for solutions to mitigate the devasting effect of these fires. While human efforts remain crucial, nature has a surprising ally in the fight – the beaver. 🔥 As we know, beavers are ecosystem engineers, they build dams that create wetlands, which significantly reduce the risk of wildfires. These crucial, and biodiverse wetlands, act as natural firebreaks, helping to slow the spread of flames by retaining moisture and creating a barrier between the fired and surrounding landscapes. 🌎 At Ecosulis, we are constantly inspired by the role that animals like beavers play in supporting a healthier, safer, more biodiverse environment. It’s a reminder that nature often has the solutions we need – if we’re willing to listen and learn. 🌳 Check out this video from Emily Fairfax as she explains “Water from beaver ponds is spread around the landscape in little channels the beavers dig. The pond water slowly seeps into the soil, keeping it wet and plants green. When wildfires come through, the beaver wetlands are too wet to burn. Can’t start a fire with soggy sticks.” 👉 Check out this video to see it in action - https://lnkd.in/erEWbWeW #NatureBasedSolutions #Rewilding #BeaverReintroductions #Wildfires
