"For John Valk" (proposal 1): improvisation on the 29th of February 2024 at 15:55 (full take). Immersive piano repetitive music. For the most patient and tenacious listeners. And for the sake of some harmonics. My longest take, so far. Not perfect, but quite satisfied with it. A few notes which I would have liked to change though, or during the main music or harmonic transitions. I am sure I can do a better one. Better with some headphones certainly. Organization of my own network of individual repetitive piano music resistance.

Once upon a time (because stories tend to start like this) when I was in third grade, the entire class learned to play a small plastic instrument called a recorder. We learned the basics of music theory on it, like reading treble clef notes and of course the notes and how to count the tempo and whatnot. It was seen as an excellent introduction for those of us going on to band or strings in the fourth grade. I spent fourth through eighth grade trying to play the violin - which my mom referred to as "the squeak box." Sometime in '99 or 2000, I found a wooden alto recorder at a yard sale for either $10 or $15 and bought it, but was confused because it is in F key instead of the C major key I learned. I set it aside, since I didn't have a method book or even a fingering chart for it. After moving down here eleven years ago, I was browsing the little music store in the small town nearest to me, and found a lovely wooden tenor recorder. By this time I knew most tenor recorders are keyed in C major just like the soprano one I learned on way back when. When the tax return came, I bought it, then bought some recorder books to go with it, along with a new plastic soprano recorder. Then I discovered the dog hated the notes ALL the recorders played and would start howling by the second or third note. I put recorders and books away for the rest of the dog's life. Recently, I saw a recommendation for a YouTube channel by a professional recorder player (Sarah Jeffery, her channel is called Team Recorder) and started watching. In just a few weeks weeks, I've learned so much! The most interesting thing is that my alto recorder was made by a high-end German company, Mollenhauer, who have maintained an excellent reputation for quality instruments since the early 1820s. Yeah, that was my yard sale recorder. A new one would cost me over $300, before shipping from Germany. I plan to practice up to playing a recorder sonata by Handel ... but it may take a month or so before it will sound good enough to record me playing my recorder. Today, I thought I'd share the entire sonata, though I am breaking it down into movements for learning it (and all the new fingering). In all truth, the first movement of it is my favorite of the entire piece. Something pretty and pleasant for y'all to listen to with me. https://lnkd.in/gentWzVB

I didn’t realize that I play and teach this piece with a more lyrical version (especially in the lilting 16th notes), until my students came in playing it differently than I do. They had seen more snapped 16th notes on other YouTubers and therefore imitated it. Therefore, I recorded it to show them my interpretation. Considering that I’m playing a stringed instrument, I enjoy the lyricism more here. What do you think? This piece is originally for piano, but was arranged and adapted for many other instruments.
