New messaging. New challenges. No problem. Five months in, Distractive continues to work towards its mission to create a unique story and message that resonates and showcases how Polkadot stands out among the rest. With Polkadot 2.0 in mind, we began work on crafting a new message for Polkadot’s next chapter and creating a resource for other marketing contributors to adopt, share, and remix. Divide and conquer → we strategically split this process into 4 stages, through which we were able to develop and deliver a whole new concept: 🔎 Research 🧪 Onsite Testing 👥 Feedback & Townhalls 🏗️ Implement After extensive work, community feedback, and internal brainstorming sessions (and lots of coffee) we arrived at a concept and three main pillars on which it is built: ❝ Polkadot is the powerful, secure core of Web3 ❞ More than just messaging. Community is a team sport 100% Invite others (& teams) to actively participate in small ways, especially at first, through a clearly defined & well-designed paths. Morgan Norris and I have been tackling a series of messaging + strategy projects lately, and it’s been interesting to see the wildly different approaches companies need, based on their goals. Company A is an established company, but they’re launching a product that is brand new to their sector. As such, they really care about getting feedback on the product + new use cases to inform product development over time. We did a 2-week intensive messaging + product launch campaign, then ran with what we had for a 90-day marketing push. After we wrap these 90 days, we’ll have a much better idea of what resonates with this audience, and where the biggest product opportunities lie. Meanwhile, Company B has seen steady growth over the last few years, tripling their team and revenue. Their messaging and website no longer reflect the company they are, so we’ve embarked on thorough messaging and website strategy. We’ll be in this process for 8 weeks with leaders across their org, followed by rolling implementation through the rest of the year. Rather than a quick plan, they need thoughtful, thorough strategy to set them up for years to come. Both companies are mid-market service companies with similar annual revenue numbers, but they needed vastly different approaches and timelines. Moral of these stories? 1. There is no one-size-fits-all playbook. Every company needs a different approach based on their goals, audience, timeline, and existing foundation. 2. Do the work on strategy + messaging before you jump into activity, or you may find you’ve wasted a lot of time, money, and effort. For me, it’s about embracing 𝗕𝗢𝗟𝗗, 𝗨𝗡𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 approaches. It’s about QUESTIONING the status quo and asking: ➡️ Is there a radically 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗪𝗔𝗬 to tackle this challenge? ➡️ Can we 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗡 from industries seemingly unrelated to ours? ➡️ What if we 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗧𝗘𝗟𝗬 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗘𝗗 our approach?
