One of the best call I did on the subject of what are spirits importers looking for in suppliers and the partnership? I ask Raj Sabharwal, one of the finest spirits importers in USA questions like below: -What makes a good supplier -What does a good starting PO look like? -What makes a likeable supplier? -What do you want from your supplier? -How you prefer new suppliers communicate with you? ...and a lot more. Solid Q and A for brands looking to know how to pitch to spirits importers.

It's been 8 years since my first wine export book was published, i.e., a guide to foreign producers and brand owners to exporting to the U.S. Much has changed in that time, but issues such as tight regulations, confusing terms and finding barriers to entry remain very much at the forefront of the challenges. Without an understanding of how to enter this market, and support continuing sales, the exporter's early efforts often lead to failure. As an importer with 32 years' experience, I bring a unique insight and perspective to the subject. As always in my books, my goal is to help suppliers and importers avoid the early mistakes that waste money, time and resources. A new exporter's guide was published yesterday on Amazon with updated advice since the last issue. https://lnkd.in/gZtqJk3a

Who do you turn to when you need to send an actual boat load of product across the world to a customer? Brokers. They don't advertise themselves that well - because they typically don't need to. If you're part of their business model, that means you're on a list somewhere. The products brokers sell are anything from alcohol, fresh produce, meat, and seafood just to name a few. That said, the role of the broker is to make the deal, not to be the supply chain; That's left to the distributors. Remember the "truck go vvroom" people? For small businesses looking to have their quality products reach a large audience for top dollar, brokers are there to help - so long as you fit into their commodity class. The value add of a broker is to aggregate a massive amount of product together to thus raise a tremendous price of it and then find a buyer willing to fork out the cash for a high volume purchase. Do you think that brokers are good for the supply chain? Or do you think they use their niche position in the food industry to find and prey on small independent vendors? Let me know below.
