Subtler and more insidious forms of discrimination often go unnoticed and can be just as harmful. What’s concerning about these ambiguous incidents is that many women don’t know how to respond to them, and often tend to turn inward. They try to adopt a more formal communication style, work harder or draw more attention to their achievements. This helps navigate discrimination in the short term but serves as a band-aid solution, doing little to catalyse the kind of systemic change necessary to foster gender equality.
