Celebrating #DisabilityPrideMonth: A Time to Recognize Achievements and Advocate for Inclusion July is Disability Pride Month, a time to honor the rich history, contributions, and experiences of people with disabilities. It also serves as a critical reminder that the fight for equal opportunity and inclusion continues. This month coincides with the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) signed in 1990, a landmark piece of legislation that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities [Source: The Arc, https://lnkd.in/gGcrBXz3] Why Does #DisabilityPride Matter? People with disabilities make up a huge portion of the global population – 1 in 4 adults in the US alone identify as having a disability [Source: Carers Solutions, https://lnkd.in/dRhwHhfr] Disability Pride Month is an opportunity to: Celebrate achievements: Recognize the many talented, successful individuals with disabilities across all fields. Raise awareness: Educate the public about the diverse experiences of people with disabilities and challenge misconceptions. Advocate for change: Continue to push for a more inclusive world that removes physical and social barriers. Let's celebrate the incredible contributions of the disability community and work together to create a world where everyone can thrive! Today marks the end of Disability Pride Month. During this month, we've been raising awareness, celebrating disability advocates and activists, highlighting individual success and accomplishments, and starting conversations about how we can all be better allies. And we won't stop doing so after today. We recognise that there is still much more to do to ensure that the needs of disabled people are met equitably. We intend to keep the conversations going and are proud to continue to play our part in creating equitable workplaces for all. ❤️💛🤍💙💚🖤 #DisabilityPrideMonth #DisabilityPride #Pride #disability #HiddenDisability #neurodiversity #representation #justice #allyship #equity #equality #diversity #inclusion #DisabilityInclusion #DisabilityRights

Throwback to last week's empowering Conference by the European Disability Forum on the #UnionOfEquality and this week's important #Equality events! 🌟 At the Conference, Equinet's Senior Legal and Policy Officer Jone I. Elizondo- Urrestarazu (PhD) took part in a dynamic panel moderated by Gunta Anca alongside other representatives of equality networks in Europe: Kim Smouter from European Network Against Racism Aisbl (ENAR), Nena Georgantzi from AGE Platform Europe, Katrin Hugendubel from ILGA-Europe, and Marine Uldry from the European Disability Forum. Jone highlighted the remarkable progress towards #Equality in Europe over recent years and expected actions for the future, emphasizing: ✅ Reinforcement of legal obligations and initiatives on equality, with a keen focus on intersectionality. ✅ Need for more effective enforcement of non-discrimination legislation and better dissuasive actions from the EU to Member States. ✅ Vital importance of supporting and strengthening #EqualityBodies. This week, representatives from Equinet joined the European Commission Disability Platform meeting and the Conference "Towards full inclusion of persons with disabilities -the European Pillar of Social Rights and beyond heart" organised by the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2024 to engage in discussions on how to ensure equality and inclusion for persons with disabilities. Cheers to all involved in these events for championing #EqualityForAll!

Happy Disability Pride Month! @Traeonna (Kimono Kitsune's proprietor) is a proud member of the D/A community...as is Kuma! Kimono Kitsune is a disabled-owned and operated business. We believe that many of the most incredible ideas and discoveries come from a diverse mix of minds, backgrounds, and experiences, which is why we are committed to cultivating a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible environment in which everyone belongs. Disability Pride Month is an annual celebration throughout July to promote awareness and acceptance of Disability as an identity, community, culture, and pride felt by people with disabilities. Disability is a broad umbrella term for bodies and minds (bodyminds) that vary from the historically traditional definition thought of as ""normal"" by our society. We look past the medical definitions to see the individual human as a holistic and intersectional person. Through variation of identity, disabled people bring diversity, beauty, and uniqueness to the human experience. Since 2015, Disability Pride events have commemorated the passage of the Americans With Disabilities Act through celebratory parades and pride events in honor of the hard-won rights and protections the ADA brought to the Disability community in 1990. We celebrate the wins but still have a long way to go for equality. Kimono Kitsune treasures our diverse horde of humans who are part of our team, our VIPs, and all the others who interact with us. #DisabilityPrideMonth #DisabilityPride #DisabilityLife #disability #DisabilityAwareness #DisabilityInclusion #inclusion #DisabilityIdentity #TheBarriersWeFace #InvisibleDisability #equality #accessibility #crippride
