The fidget spinner craze a few years ago caused quite a stir. Some people loved them, and some hated them, but there was one thing everyone could agree on- they were distracting. Many teachers complained that students were spinning their spinners in class instead of paying attention to the teacher. While fidget toys for kids may not answer every child’s fidgeting and anxiety problems, they can be a helpful tool for some kids. https://lnkd.in/gsnyjQuy

If your child is having tantrums, trouble getting along with their good friends, stomachaches/fatigue, or a fear of sleeping alone, they may be feeling anxiety about the new school year. You can help ease that anxiety by talking with them about their worries and coming up with solutions together. Some ideas include setting up play dates with other kids in their class or doing a walk-through of their routes to their classroom and pickup/drop-off areas.

My second article for Brainz Magazine. Have you ever collected your child from school, having been told by the teacher that they have behaved perfectly all day, but as soon as they arrive home, your child just explodes? You are not alone in this. This article examines why this occurs and provides four helpful strategies to support your child and bring harmony back into the household.

Are you a grown up who needs a break - how about some adult recess? Head Start children, families, and staff thrive when they are safe, healthy, and emotionally secure. Children’s well-being is closely connected to the well-being of the adults who care for them. Adults who can regulate their emotions and behaviors, especially in times of stress, are better able to meet social and emotional needs of the children they care for. One of the most fun ways adults can practice and increase their own emotional regulation is through play. Adult Recess is a series of animated videos that support participants in moving their bodies in mindful ways to promote and practice regulation skills. Each video guides participants in a warm-up, a game, and an ending reflection. Play alone, in a group, or with children : https://lnkd.in/dAkzFd4D
