Did you know Black Girl Day Off is observed every October 11 annually in the United States? This day is dedicated to encouraging Black women to take a mental health day to focus on their emotional well-being, recognizing their higher risk for heart disease, breast cancer, and other chronic illnesses. It aims to promote proactive health engagement within the Black community while emphasizing the need for skilled, compassionate mental health providers who understand the unique traumas and challenges faced by marginalized and oppressed individuals, ensuring they receive the appropriate care. On September 18, 2024, we had our Alliance Roundtable discussion, "Shaping the Future of Equity and Inclusion," which reported on the industry's current race-related challenges and actionable solutions. Today is the "National Day for Truth and Reconciliation," also known as "Orange Shirt Day." On September 30th, the U.S. and Canada commemorate survivors of residential schools for Native children in Canada and the U.S. The U.S. system, modeled after the Carlisle Indian School, aimed to assimilate Native children through harsh cultural erasure policies. Recent discoveries of unmarked graves at Canadian residential schools prompted the U.S. Department of the Interior to investigate the legacy of its own boarding schools and their lasting impact on Indigenous communities.
