Very grateful for the anti-racism resources that were brought to my attention through the recent AFP Canada Leadership Retreat. My involvement with AFP Edmonton & Area Chapter has been a wellspring of resources for learning and growing both professionally and as member of my community. In particular, I have appreciated the opportunity to engage with materials that help me confront the ways in which I uphold systems of oppression. Particularly towards black and Indigenous people living in Canada. Here are some tools I'd like to share that are free: Black Canadians: History, Presence, and Anti-Racist Futures as well as Historical, Systemic and Intersectional Antiracism: From Awareness to Action https://lnkd.in/gkJNBC76 These tools are important to me because: 1. They do not require the BIPOC people in your life to answer questions that are emotionally laborious for them. 2. They allow you a space to reflect on the ways you can do better, or behaviours that you need to start/stop. 3. They equip you with the language and facts to support the feelings that are sometimes difficult or uncomfortable to articulate when having conversations about racism. Please take a look and share any resources you have found to be helpful in your commitment to truthfulness and inclusive community building.

Policy Advisor @ Ministry of Affordability & Utilities | MA in Political Science specialization in International Relations | Queen Elizabeth Platinum Jubilee Award.
I am elated to share that I was accepted into the Black Diplomats Academy as a cohort 4 fellow by Developing Young Leaders of Tomorrow, Today (DYLOTT). DYLOTT is a black youth-focused leadership incubator organization, geared towards changing the socio-economic outlook for marginalized communities. 📌 It is an utmost privilege to be selected as one of the 36 Black changemakers out of a competitive pool of 1000 + candidates ✨ 📌 With the BDA program, I am given the opportunity to meet and work with like-minded Black intellects across the globe who are equally passionate about diplomacy, global and public policies and socio economic issues faced by people of African Descent within the global realm. For the next 10 months, I will: ✅ Engage in meaningful discussions with global policy leaders ✅ Hone my diplomacy/advocacy skills ✅ Craft a research paper around global/public policies and socio economic issues, which will be presented at the Black Diplomacy Global Summit. ➕ much more! Moreover, I am mostly looking forward to being guided by the knowledge, expertise and exceptional leadership of Candies Kotchapaw Angelica J. and Danisha D.. It will definitely be an experience that I will forever cherish! In retrospect, being apart of this fellowship is truly a privilege and I am grateful for this opportunity! I look forward to challenging myself as well as delving into the realm of diplomacy, so that I can make meaningful changes within my community 🙌🏾. #Diplomacy #UNSDGS #GlobalPolicy #Blackempowerment

“When you look in the mirror, you’d better love what you see!” This Emmy acceptance speech speech by Sheryl Lee Ralph and the one by Niecy Nash are powerful reminders as women, we need to put self-love and acceptance on a recurring loop throughout our days. Practice it. Absorb it. Repeat. As a leader, and one who is the first female executive at my company, it’s not always easy to navigate the male dominated establishment, but remember you’re there for a reason, your contribution is valuable and it’s okay to push for what you want, when it’s backed by evidence and experience. https://lnkd.in/gAG2gC72
