We recently had the pleasure of interviewing Jake Firth, Logistics Manager at LUSH, who shared great insight with us into the company’s sustainability journey. Lush has always prioritised their commitment to the earth. Through reusing, repurposing and repairing materials, they have been successfully directing this devotion to the circular economy of zero waste. Jake shared with us how Lush has currently been working towards bigger, more sustainable projects, with the key challenge being to strike a balance between sustainability and cost drivers. “The low-hanging fruit—such as efficiencies—are relatively straightforward to implement. However, as we delve deeper, we need to consider where we are investing and what the cost implications will be.” Read the full interview here to learn more: https://lnkd.in/e3g95-ct

Our Chairman, Dr. Ron Jabal, DBA, APR, emphasized in his recent BusinessWorld Publishing Corporation column the crucial shift towards sustainability in the retail industry, highlighting its multifaceted benefits. He highlighted that this transition is not just about addressing environmental concerns but also about creating value for businesses and consumers alike. The SM Green Finds x Zarah Juan initiative is a prime example of how adopting sustainable practices can have a ripple effect. By focusing on a circular economy—where materials are continuously reused and repurposed—this project illustrates how businesses can significantly reduce waste and environmental impact. The collaboration also showcases how supporting local artisans and raising consumer awareness can drive meaningful social progress. “The shift towards sustainability in retail is not only necessary but also beneficial for businesses, consumers, and the environment. Projects like SM Green Finds x Zarah Juan show how businesses can embrace sustainable practices that promote a circular economy, empower communities, and drive social impact. By repurposing materials, supporting local artisans, and raising consumer awareness, retailers can play a crucial role in creating a more sustainable future. As more businesses adopt these practices, the collective impact could lead to significant positive changes for the economy and society.” Our Chairman stated. Online and offline Marketer | Corporate Communications | Community Manager | Copywriter | Social Media Manager | Partnerships
🌍 Happy World Earth Day! 🌿 𝙎͟𝙪͟𝙨͟𝙩͟𝙖͟𝙞͟𝙣͟𝙖͟𝙗͟𝙞͟𝙡͟𝙞͟𝙩͟𝙮͟ - I have been late to this, but the more I read about it, the more interesting it is getting and currently, as consumers, every choice we make has an impact, and as marketers, we hold a unique opportunity to inspire and facilitate positive change. Here's how we marketers can contribute to fostering a greener, more sustainable world: 𝗘͟𝗱͟𝘂͟𝗰͟𝗮͟𝘁͟𝗶͟𝗼͟𝗻͟ ͟𝗮͟𝗻͟𝗱͟ ͟𝗔͟𝘄͟𝗮͟𝗿͟𝗲͟𝗻͟𝗲͟𝘀͟𝘀͟: Educate consumers about the environmental impact of their choices. Share information about sustainable practices, eco-friendly products, and the importance of conservation. 𝗣͟𝗿͟𝗼͟𝗺͟𝗼͟𝘁͟𝗲͟ ͟𝗦͟𝘂͟𝘀͟𝘁͟𝗮͟𝗶͟𝗻͟𝗮͟𝗯͟𝗹͟𝗲͟ ͟𝗣͟𝗿͟𝗼͟𝗱͟𝘂͟𝗰͟𝘁͟𝘀͟ ͟𝗮͟𝗻͟𝗱͟ ͟𝗦͟𝗲͟𝗿͟𝘃͟𝗶͟𝗰͟𝗲͟𝘀͟: Highlight and promote sustainable products and services and steer consumers towards more environment friendly options. For example, I love thrift shopping and I am super vocal about it. Thrift for Good is an amazing place I get thrifted clothes from. 𝗖͟𝗿͟𝗲͟𝗮͟𝘁͟𝗲͟ ͟𝗚͟𝗿͟𝗲͟𝗲͟𝗻͟ ͟𝗖͟𝗮͟𝗺͟𝗽͟𝗮͟𝗶͟𝗴͟𝗻͟𝘀͟: Craft marketing campaigns centered around sustainability to inspire consumers to adopt eco-friendly behaviors. Leverage compelling storytelling and messaging that resonates with environmental values. 𝗜͟͟𝗻͟͟𝗰͟͟𝗲͟͟𝗻͟͟𝘁͟͟𝗶͟͟𝘃͟͟𝗶͟͟𝘀͟𝗲͟͟ ͟͟𝗦͟͟𝘂͟͟𝘀͟͟𝘁͟͟𝗮͟͟𝗶͟͟𝗻͟͟𝗮͟͟𝗯͟͟𝗹͟͟𝗲͟͟ ͟͟𝗕͟͟𝗲͟͟𝗵͟͟𝗮͟͟𝘃͟͟𝗶͟͟𝗼͟͟𝘂͟𝗿͟͟: Implement incentives such as discounts for recycling, rewards for opting for sustainable products, or loyalty programs tied to eco-friendly actions can encourage consumers to prioritize sustainability. 𝗖͟𝗼͟𝗹͟𝗹͟𝗮͟𝗯͟𝗼͟𝗿͟𝗮͟𝘁͟𝗶͟𝗼͟𝗻͟ ͟𝗮͟𝗻͟𝗱͟ ͟𝗣͟𝗮͟𝗿͟𝘁͟𝗻͟𝗲͟𝗿͟𝘀͟𝗵͟𝗶͟𝗽͟𝘀͟: Facilitate partnerships between businesses, NGOs, and government agencies to tackle environmental challenges collectively. 𝗟͟𝗼͟𝗻͟𝗴͟-͟𝗧͟𝗲͟𝗿͟𝗺͟ ͟𝗘͟𝗻͟𝗴͟𝗮͟𝗴͟𝗲͟𝗺͟𝗲͟𝗻͟𝘁͟: Cultivate long-term relationships with consumers involves encouraging sustainable habits over time. Marketers can develop campaigns and initiatives that foster lasting behavioural change, rather than short-term trends. Most importantly, it's crucial that we cut back on our use of plastics. Personally, I've found one habit particularly tough to kick – relying on wet wipes. They're always in my bag, super handy, but devastating for the environment. While I understand it's not easy to quit cold turkey, taking baby steps towards alternatives is essential. Together, let's commit to these small changes and make a big impact in saving our planet!
