On Tuesday during our production meeting I asked our team “do you think guys in the Alabama football locker room or the Michigan locker room just sit around and pat each other on the backs all day?” “Or do you think they hold each other to higher standard and push each other to get better?” The same thing exists in business, it’s the players job to hold the standard of execution, of attitude, of expectations from each other. It’s our job as leaders to help define it, help find people that want be a part of it, put people in the right positions, and then help encourage everyone to hold the line themselves. Great teams are not full of YES men and YES women, they are chalk full of ACCOUNTABLE men and women. So yeah, we get after each other a little bit more than maybe your average company, but it’s in the name of accountability and the desire to be great… not just as individuals but as a great team of great individuals. Have a great day! #scraplife #teamwork #hustle #begreat #tirerecycling #tirereclaim #lfg #fafo

Alongside launching Pebble, I have had the privilege of leading Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton for the last few months (until May 1st). This organization has history – both hard and amazing, and so much potential for the future. I have found that having missed the past I can get too focused on where we are going, with not enough appreciation for where we have been. If you are a leader steering change, you might notice the “old ways of doing things” holding a strong anchor. It’s natural; when we pour our hearts into our work, it becomes more than just tasks—it becomes part of who we are. This deep investment can make change feel like a critique of our past efforts, sparking defensiveness. What if we saw change not as a challenge to our past but as an evolution of our context? Imagine a leadership approach that honors the wisdom of our past while eagerly embracing the new paths ahead. Could this be the secret to bringing everyone along in change? By recognizing the value of what has been and the potential of what could be, we create a space where tradition and innovation don't just coexist; they fuel each other. How do you cultivate this both/and thinking within your teams and organizations? One of my favourite ways is reframing change as growth, not rejection. It's about building on our foundations, not tearing them down. Ready to transform your leadership approach and foster a culture where tradition and innovation coexist harmoniously? Wells Fargo Fellow; Operations Leader: Overseeing Strategic Planning ▶ Managing Human Resources, Talent Acquisition and Staffing Allocation ▶ Developing Policies and Enforcing Compliance Programs
The distinction between my leadership approach and that of some others lies in my focus on harnessing the unique strengths of my team rather than attempting to develop a universally “well-rounded” skill set among all members. In my view, the Air Force has adopted a mindset that emphasizes the necessity for individuals to possess a broad range of skills. However, history shows us that success often comes from specialization. For instance, Michael Jordan was not primarily known as a three-point specialist, Dennis Rodman was not recognized for his shooting, and Steve Kerr was not a dominant rebounder. By learning to leverage the individual strengths of team members and positioning them for success, we can create opportunities that lead to greater achievements. This approach can significantly enhance our collective performance and increase the likelihood of winning championships.

When we bought this property to build our home on, we took it down to dirt. Other than the old oak trees, there was nothing left standing. For nearly 20 years, we've been working on the yard. In some seasons, it is spectacular. In other seasons, it struggles. But with patience and love, we've been rewarded. It's the same thing in leadership. Patience and love bring beautiful rewards. Congratulations to the Boston Celtics on their incredible achievement of securing a record 18th NBA Championship! Growing up in Boston, I've been an avid Boston sports fan since elementary school, this victory feels especially sweet. As I watched the team celebrate with my son, it struck me how much their journey mirrors the dynamics we strive for in the business world. Here are a few key takeaways: 1. Teamwork Makes the Dream Work: The Celtics showcased exceptional teamwork, with each player understanding their role and contributing to the collective goal. In business, when everyone knows their part and works together, success is inevitable. 2. Adaptability and Resilience: The road to a championship is never easy, filled with ups and downs. The Celtics' ability to adapt and bounce back from large deficits, often winning in hostile environments. Securing victories on the road, showcases the team’s mental toughness. In business this translates to thriving under pressure and succeeding in competitive markets. 3. Leadership on and off the Court: Strong leadership, both from the coaching staff and team captains, was crucial to their victory. In business, effective leaders inspire and guide their teams to achieve greatness. Even when your down by 22 points in the playoffs on the road! 4. Continuous Improvement: The Celtics never rested on their laurels. They constantly sought to improve, analyzing their performance and making necessary adjustments. This mindset is essential for staying competitive in any industry. 5. Evaluating and Upgrading Talent: The recent additions of players like Kristaps Porzingis, Jrue Holiday, and Derrick White over the past 2-3 years have brought fresh talent and energy to the team, contributing significantly to their success. This highlights the importance of always evaluating and top-grading your team, ensuring you have the best talent to drive success. Here’s to celebrating the Celtics’ victory and applying these lessons to achieve our own business championships! 🏀💼 #BostonCeltics #NBAChampions #Teamwork #Leadership #BusinessSuccess #ContinuousImprovement #Resilience #Victory #TalentManagement

Boston Celtics have clinched the 2024 NBA Championship! 🎉 After a 14-year wait, this victory is a testament to their unwavering determination, teamwork, and relentless pursuit of excellence. Celtics' journey to this title has been inspiring. Their strategy has been meticulously crafted from securing talented players to fostering exceptional team bonding and coordination. The incredible synergy between Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum has been a standout highlight. Reflecting on their success, here are the top 5 lessons from the Celtics that resonate deeply with corporate achievement: 1️⃣ Clear Goal-Setting: Like the Celtics' aim to win the championship, setting clear and ambitious goals motivates employees to strive for excellence in their roles. 2️⃣ Team Cohesion: Just as the Celtics built strong team bonding, a cohesive workplace culture fosters trust, collaboration, and effective communication among colleagues. 3️⃣ Adaptability: Throughout the season, the Celtics adjusted their strategies based on opponents' strengths—a crucial skill in adapting to market dynamics and evolving business landscapes. 4️⃣ Leadership and Mentorship: Strong leadership from coaches and senior players nurtured younger talent—a model for grooming future leaders within organizations. 5️⃣ Resilience: Facing setbacks, injuries, and tough competition, the Celtics demonstrated resilience—a key trait for navigating challenges and achieving long-term success #BostonCeltics #NBAChampions #Teamwork #Leadership #SuccessLessons #Inspiration #Learning

I am starting to think I need to add a #SundayScottie segment with the run Scottie Scheffler is on. This week's #TigerTuesday would say otherwise. There are just three instances of a player winning five (or more) PGA Tour starts in a row in the last 60 years: - Tiger Woods (7 straight 2006-2007) - Tiger Woods (6 straight 1999-2000) - and Tiger Woods (5 straight 2007-2008). Scottie needs 3 more consecutive wins to match Tiger's streak of 5. There are countless warehouses out there where the same person is on the top of the leaderboard month in and month out. As someone in leadership, that poses a couple challenges: - How do I continue incentivizing this person to stay motivated? - What happens if they leave? - How do I bring the rest of the team "up to par"? These are conversations we have every day in the world of Warehouse Management. Come join the fun! #WMS #ecommerce
