We've got three possible strikes on the horizon. 1. CN and Teamsters Canada workers seem unlikely to come to an agreement before an August 22nd lockout. CN stopped accepting new cargo today and is placing further restrictions on hazardous cargo moving through their network. 2. Dockworkers across India's 12 largest ports agreed to go on an indefinite strike from August 28, after long-running pay negotiations failed. With disruptions in the Red Sea, #India has become a more important transship destination. 3. The US East Coast longshoreman union and US Maritime Alliance continue discussions but have a deal deadline of September 30th before #industrialaction commences. While all can disrupt global trade significantly, note that both sides tend to ramp up rhetoric before a #strike as a bargaining tool. EMO Trans continues to update customers affected, and we have alternative routing methods in place to move cargo. #oceanfreight #export #import #internationallogistics #successbyperformance

#Port strike The risk of a mass strike by US port workers has risen sharply. The Red Sea crisis has been slow to ease, and global freight rates remain high. The global shipping industry is facing a new risk: the rising risk of future mass strikes by longshoremen at China's East Coast and Gulf Coast ports. On July 15, the International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) warned of the imminent threat of a strike at ports along the U.S. East Coast and Gulf Coast, noting that there are only 80 days left when contracts expire on Sept. 30. Talks remain deadlocked after the union alleged Maersk's APM terminals were using automated machines and could infringe on its jurisdiction. #shipping #logistics #x-line logistics

Canada rail companies continue talks to avoid strike Canada’s Minister of Labor will continue talks with representatives of CN, CPKC, and the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference on Wednesday to avoid the work stoppage set to begin at 12:01 a.m. ET on Thursday, Aug. 22. The talks are being held as a coalition of business groups is calling on the Canadian federal government to prevent the work stoppage at country's two biggest railways. CN and CPKC own and operate three-quarters of rail connecting pivotal US hubs, and the two parties could ignite a prolonged strike with severe supply chain impact. Carriers are bracing themselves. Container carriers like Maersk and Hapag Lloyd are reviewing contingency plans in case of a widespread rail strike in Canada that could disrupt supply chains. #Cantranspo #shippingnews #logistics #freightforwarding #Shipping #oceanfreight #supplychain #airfreight

Teamsters Canada members at CN and CPKC vote for a strike due to stalled negotiations over safety provisions. President Boucher asserts companies seek to weaken safety-related rest provisions, leading to an impasse. Union prioritizes safety but aims to avoid supply chain disruption. CN proposed an alternative deal, emphasizing supply chain protection and fair employee treatment. Strike could significantly impact the economy, given CN's extensive tracks across Canada and CPKC's critical link between North American markets post-merger.
