10 Commandments for HR Professionals HR department in any organisation is vital for managing its most valuable asset – its people. HR oversees recruiting, training, employee relations, and compliance with labor laws, ensuring a motivated workforce. Effective HR management boosts productivity, fosters a positive organizational culture, and aligns employee goals with strategic business objectives. I personally feel that if the HR department takes care of the following, it can benefit an organisation and its people immensely. 👉 The HR department should know the role of each employee in the company and goal/vision of the company, its founders and/or business owners. This awareness allows them to create a synergy between the two. 👉 They should have a clearly drafted and documented Key Responsibility Areas (KRAs) for every employee and should have quantified outcomes or performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure the deliverables are in line with their role. 👉 They have to ensure that for executing their KRAs effectively and to achieve excellence, all employees have been provided effective and continuous training and upskilling. 👉 They have to set a clear growth path, a roadmap for progress for every employee to ensure that they stay with the organisation for as long as possible. 👉 They have to create a policy to ensure work-life balance for every employee. Only a happy workforce can make an organisation successful. 👉 They have to extended their shoulder for support to every employee to share their concerns and take care of their mental and physical health and extend the support wherever possible to their family members as well. 👉 They have to create a happy working environment and culture within the office by organising various get togethers for people to mingle, loosen up, and really get to know each other as a person. 👉 They have to acknowledge, appreciate and reward every employee for their efforts and contribution towards building the organisation. 👉 They have to create a diverse workforce and draft policies to attract and retain all kinds of talent including men, woman, those who are differently abled both physically and mentally, those from LGBTQ community, etc. into the organisation. 👉 They have to ensure the law of the land is followed and humanity is upheld. If HR leaders and departments truly follow and practice the above dictums, they can play a significant role in the success of an organisation by achieving extraordinary results, surpassing every expectation. #HR #HumanResource #HumanCapital #People #organisation #leadership #HRPractices

I recently saw a LinkedIn post by a CHRO of a company emphasizing that HR is not your friends and companies are not families. While both these statements are true, it also implies the problematic side of HR practice as an enabler of employee exploitation. As a HR practitioner I have said this many times that HR mimics colonization. Decolonizing HR practice is important to foster inclusive and equitable workplaces based on the foundation of equity. Traditional HR models often reflect colonial power structures that marginalize diverse voices and perpetuate systemic inequalities. We need to reimagine HR through a decolonial lens, to create environments that truly value and uplift all employees. HR as an enabler of people centric programs, policies and practices. Renaming HR is the first step in this process. The term "Human Resources" can imply that people are merely resources to be managed, rather than individuals with unique (lived) experiences. A new name can better reflect a commitment to people-centric values, equity, and respect for all employees. Do you agree? Want to learn more about how to decolonize HR practice? Send me a DM. #DecolonizeHR #InclusiveWorkplace #EquityInAction
