On the way to his second Tour de France victory last year, Denmark's Jonas Vingegaard was facing tough questions regarding his pace before he even arrived in Paris. How was he going so fast? How was it possible to be over seven minutes ahead of a cyclist of Tadej Pogačar's caliber? Some reporters even explicitly asked: "Are you cheating?". In 2023, Vingegaard completed the grueling 3-week, 3,401 kilometer competition at an average speed of 41.4 km/h (25.574 mph). Given cycling's deservedly bad reputation, it is perhaps understandable that exceptional performances like that still raise suspicions. As Statista's Felix Richter shows in the chart below, the Tour de France has not slowed down since the doping-infested years of the early 2000s. Whether that's due to super-fast carbon bikes, favorable routing or the use of performance-enhancing substances is a question the sport is not yet fully able to answer.

The Melbourne Cup Carnival is not just a horse racing event; it is an iconic Australian brand that draws repeat tourism from around the world. With deep roots in Melbourne's and Australia's history, this event has become a significant international drawcard for Victoria's tourism economy. While drawing repeat visitation is challenging for most sporting events, the Melbourne Cup Carnival thrives and attracts millions of visitors annually to Victoria. Creating a sense of place is difficult, but fortunately, there are opportunities to reinforce the destination and broaden its appeal. One example is Melbourne Central, one of my past major urban projects involved Australia's most successful urban renewal project. Since its opening, Melbourne Central has catalyzed over $9 billion of new projects, with many more billions of dollars of new projects underway or in advanced planning. The outcome is that Melbourne Central has changed the direction of the City of Melbourne. Melbourne Central has become an iconic destination and is set to draw around 40 million annual visitors this year despite Melbourne's low office occupancy rates—the lowest in all Australian Capital Cities. As the Melbourne Cup Carnival continues to grow in scale and significance, there's no doubt that it will continue to reinforce Melbourne's position is that of a premier tourism destination. #Melbourne #MelbourneCentral #MelbourneCup

This is actually a blow to tourism in Thunder Bay and harms the city’s continued development. The only long-term solution is more competition. Thunder Bay could use another airline or two connecting us either to Chicago or even to Hamilton. Hamilton’s airport is a short drive to Toronto and a gateway to Niagara region and southwestern Ontario. Hamilton is also now well connected via GO Transit. Hamilton’s airport is now the home to Play Airlines (that advertises the airport as Greater Toronto Hamilton) that connects to numerous European cities. Maybe Bearskin or Wasaya should consider an expansion. Wasaya currently has experience with 40 seater Dash-8s. It is not a stretch to go bigger. #competition #airlines #thunderbay

As many runners know, there were challenges with the Miami Marathon 2024 Medal, a case about the importance of #CustomerCentric Culture.  For many runners, the medal is a cherished symbol of their accomplishment, proudly displayed on #MedalMonday and at their homes. Runners who live abroad, especially those traveling with carry-on luggage, faced additional hurdles due to airport security concerns regarding the medal design. While the organizers communicated this beforehand, navigating additional check-in procedures can be time-consuming and inconvenient. Ensuring a smooth and positive experience for all runners is crucial. Perhaps offering alternatives, like exploring secure shipping solutions, could have alleviated these issues for participants.
