Clean energy stands as the foundation for a sustainable future.    Today is the International Day of Clean Energy, which emphasizes the need for sustainable, affordable, and equitable access to renewable energy.   Clean energy reduces emissions and benefits communities without access to reliable power sources.   The United Nations states that 675 million people live in the dark- 4 in 5 are in Sub-Saharan Africa.   Electricity is necessary for education, healthcare, and economic advancement. Recognizing the interconnectedness of clean energy, economic development, and environmental sustainability is crucial in addressing challenges faced by the communities we serve.    At Kinvest Impact, we introduce clean energy to communities in the Nyagatare District of Rwanda, where access to electricity is scarce. Each market hub is solar-powered, and we are converting our transportation service vehicles to be fully electric. Fundraising update! We are proud to share that our new Akayange Market Hub in Eastern Rwanda will run solely on solar power! Our 35 kW solar system will save us an estimated $9,000 per year, allowing us to reinvest in initiatives that accelerate rural development. This solar installation will reduce our carbon footprint and produce clean energy for decades to come! This project was made possible thanks to the support of the Hammond Climate Solutions Foundation's #SolarMoonshot Program, which provided a $25,000 grant to install solar panels at the Akayange Market Hub.   As we prepare to break ground on the new Akayange Market Hub, we are looking to expand the project and do even more to serve the local community. As we continue to work toward #FinancingEnergyProsperity, it is really exciting to see the progress we have achieved in #Benin, the #DemocraticRepublicoftheCongo, #Nigeria, #Madagascar, and #SierraLeone documented. We’d like to share this video showcasing our achievements in these five countries following the electrification of communities with solar power and which was featured at the opening of the Transforming Energy Access (TEA) Forum in Kigali, Rwanda earlier last week. The #TEAForum24 was sponsored by UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. We are most proud of the thousands of lives that continue to be transformed every day and the dignity brought to these communities as we seek to maximise the productive use of this energy access. We have heard success stories of how small businesses are expanding their operations and new job opportunities being generated as a result of access to clean, uninterrupted electricity thus providing new impetus to the local economies. One of the most critical challenges of our time is providing reliable energy to more than 500 million people in Africa who still lack access to electricity—a problem that Bboxx exists to solve. It was an inspiring week at the #GOGLA Forum in Nairobi alongside Amaury Franklin Fastenakels, our CCO, Susan Odaya Odipo, Bernard Mucui, and Vincent Koech among other peers in the industry, all united by the shared goal of shaping Africa’s future by driving universal electricity access and building climate resilience. Here are some of my takeaways from the forum: 🔌 Off-grid solar energy remains the most cost-effective solution for providing electricity to those who still lack reliable access in Africa. With Africa’s population projected to double by 2050, primarily consisting of young people, the demand for innovative renewable energy solutions is expected to increase significantly. 🌞 Given Africa's crucial role in addressing climate change, thanks to its youthful population and abundant renewable energy resources, there is an urgent need for increased support, especially in the form of funding, to scale these solutions and achieve universal energy access. Innovative financing mechanisms, such as local currency debt financing and Results-Based Financing (RBF), can help unlock the capital required to scale off-grid projects on the continent. 🌱 It was inspiring to witness innovations in the sector, including solutions for the productive use of solar energy, such as energy-efficient farming equipment. These technologies empower communities, particularly women and young people, to become more self-sufficient and more resilient to the effects of climate change.
