Many #startups try their best to make a #change; some brands want to support them, more in the media than on the long term financial side, and after a while, the sandcastle collapses 💨 Do we really need to get to this point? Where are the true #responsibilities? Did we really give up on #sustainability? These companies had been supported by #brands like H&M, Adidas, Stella McCartney, etc., and they quickly became popular in the news. High expectations were set for them, along with high investment, but it seems it wasn't enough… or maybe the focus was too much on sustainable material and not enough on a #sustainable #business model. There are many companies that act behind the scenes. You don’t hear about them much in the news, probably because they are also focusing on a sustainable business model📚🙇♂️ Getting #investment is the gasoline 🏍️that can make the engine of those companies run far, but if we don’t check how the engine works, we are just throwing gasoline randomly on the ground, and the fire quickly extinguishes.🧯 Investors somehow get a good return on their image when they invest millions in these initiatives, and customers with a close eye on sustainability will get closer to them, giving them a competitive advantage🚅 The problem is that they seem to pay more attention to the #marketing story than to the startup's business plan. Of course, no one has a crystal ball🔮and delivering a good message is always admirable, but we should remember the past and ask if they can still be considered sustainable🌳 In the Sustainable Academy t we want to tackle this issue with experts and some of these startups, sharing good ideas but also the difficulties that are out there to make this happen. Palette Brands (formerly White Inc) (earlier White.Inc), a consumer goods company, has raised close to $2 million in a pre-Series A round led by Rockstud Capital. The round also saw participation from existing investors such as Inflection Point Ventures & DHOLAKIA VENTURES, alongside angel investors Stoffer Anko Norden and Apurva Salapuria. The primary focus of this funding will be on the launch of Ember, a cookware brand, given the ripe opportunity for innovation in this category. Consumers are actively seeking to elevate their kitchen experiences while prioritizing healthier choices. Siddharth Gadodia, the founder of Palette Brands, expressed, "There's a significant gap in the market for cookware that seamlessly blends form and functionality. Ember is poised to address this by offering a non-toxic cookware brand with exceptional non-stick properties." Loved this short interview with CEO of Vinted. I had no idea they are Lithuanian btw!!). In addition to their unique approach to sellers (no seller fees unlike eBay for example), as an enthusiastic Vinted user, I was impressed by their data on sustainability element: - The majority of their shipments is locker to locker => 62% more efficiency vs home delivery - 1 out of 3 transactions on the platform avoids the purchase of the new item => every transaction on average avoids 1.8kg of CO2 vs buying a new item Last year they reached profitability and reported 61% revenue growth. Wondering if they finally manage to go to an IPO. After becoming a mom, I’m frustrated about the number of non-recycable plastic produced by kids industry. Majority of toys I've ever purchased to my son - was through Vinted. I'm even stronger committed to proceed doing so.
