Are ACGME and American Dental Association CODA listening?
A topic I've wanted to write about for some time. If you read nothing else in the article, jump to the Scenario (2nd section) so you can appreciate the awful bind some residents who are caught up in unethical and abusive training programs experience.

Most would not think dental unit water line safety (DUWLS) to necessarily be a particularly sexy topic...including myself - formerly. Not a lot of sizzle there folks, right? Amanda Hill, RDH gives a most engaging presentation on this important topic in dentistry - one of the most under-rated program we have on CE Dojo. Check it out! https://lnkd.in/grn3xSCw #dentistry #infectioncontrol
Dental Unit Water Line Safety (DUWLs) How well are dental practices adhering to CDC's recommendations concerning DUWL safety? According to a recent ADA survey, over 1/3 of the respondents had no idea if they were in compliance or not, and over 1/2 had no designated infection control coordinator on staff. In addition, data from a number of independent water line testing entities indicated that 20-30% of all waterlines tested failed to meet the CDC standard, and over 60% of those failures contained CFU counts greater than 10,000 CFU/ml, which was well above the accepted standard of 500 CFU/ml. Ignorance about your compliance is not an acceptable situation and could put your practice and your patients at risk. Make sure you have a written plan for testing and treating your water lines, and make sure your results are documented.

Please read our new blog post "The Disrupted Physician" - linking to a story by Anne Phelan-Adams, MD about a physician who unwittingly became ensnared in the medical regulatory therapeutic complex from an OUD due to post-herpetic neuralgia. Though this is a story about a physician it equally applies to all allied health professionals – including dentists and dental hygienists – and illustrates the regulatory drag-net which ensnares those who so unsuspectingly and unwittingly reach out for help only to find themselves deprived of choice or bodily autonomy. #dentistry #dentalhygiene #phpawareness
