Recruiters and hiring managers, take note! A recent recruiter e-mail I received left me shaking my head. The job description was for a position located 500 miles from my home in San Diego, CA. Other than the position title, this is the entire Job Description: 4 days in office (M-TH) no exceptions MUST BE LOCAL, No exceptions NO relocation Start date: ASAP interviewing options this week! While this is probably the most extreme example I have seen, there are plenty that come very close. With a tech unemployment rate of 1.8%, it's time to rethink recruitment strategies. Do you agree? #techrecruiting #unemploymentrate #staffing

Absolutely! As a recruiter in this professional space, I try to always include the relevant details in my outreach efforts. And these messages should certainly be focused more on what is in it for the recruitee vs the demands and requirements of the job/employer. Sadly, my industry in general has caught the IA bug and so many recruiters are sending thousands of messages out in bulk to wide lists of candidates (often not anywhere close to what they are seeking in talent). It waters down efforts and makes all of us view almost everything as Junk Mail...ya know?!?! I personally hate it and will keep making focused and personal outreaches to clients until the day I die (or can't pick up the phone anymore - LOL)!

It is too easy to mass market with pressing enter. I call it passive marketing. All it takes is one interested party out of 1000's reached.
