Thoughts: Why is it so hard these days to land a good position with an excellent team in the oil and gas industry? This is for all personnel with experience. It should be easy, but it's not. They overlook you're experience and go with personnel who have never been in the industry. But if I look at a different industry to go into, they tell me that I have never worked in this field before, so here comes the rejection for the position! So please explain. What can a person do differently to land a good position?

When applying for Oil & Gas jobs, it’s best to always assume your reader knows nothing about what you do. It’s also best to stick to covering EXACTLY what they’re asking for - nothing more, nothing less. Sometimes when you go above and beyond what’s asked in a job description, you come across as overqualified rather than landing in the top 1% of candidates. It also means that you shouldn’t assume your audience knows that your technical background can translate to something else. When I’m doubt, spoon feed your reader what they need to hear. This means putting ‘10+ years of experience in regional drilling fluids technical sales’ in the top of your resume if the job description SPECIFICALLY requires these things. Yes, you may have 18 years of experience. But they’re looking for 10+ years of experience. And writing ‘10+ years of experience’ also allows your content to align more closely with the job description in an ATS.
