Last month, the “Discovering DNOW” series had another exceptional presentation focused on HSE - broadening our understanding of the topic and the importance of it in our workplace. The HSE team addressed numerous topics, including: ✅ Everyone in the company has the same responsibility when it comes to addressing and reporting unsafe actions. ✅ DNOW has transitioned its understanding of HSE to include a holistic approach addressing many things from physical to mental well-being. ✅ Our focus around safety culture strategies is aimed at remembering that every incident number is tied to a person - people we know and work with - and we are all invested in seeing them going home safely. ✅ The culture has shifted from seeing HSE not as the “police” but as a valued resource. Employees are utilizing the right to address unsafe behaviors. ✅ We will know that our safety culture has been successful when it influences safety and well-being in all aspects of our team’s life. We thank the HSE team for the inspiring and informative presentation! We are very proud of how DNOW is focused on cultivating a strong health and safety culture in and outside the workplace. And we also want to thank DNOW’s RAD program (Retain, Attract, and Develop) for hosting this event. RAD provides a dedicated avenue to exercise professional growth, gain perspective, dig deeper into the foundations of our company, and promote inclusive thought. Because we believe an investment in our team is an investment in our current and future success!

Empowering Safety through Engaging Training | Passionate about OHS & Corporate Health | From German Roots to U.S. Workplaces
June is National Safety Month, an annual opportunity to reevaluate our approaches to reducing injury and death at work, on the road, and in our communities. This week, we focus on 'Safety Engagement,' an essential element of creating safer workplaces. Engaging everyone in safety processes not only helps in identifying hazards before they cause harm but also fosters a culture where safety is a shared responsibility. To enhance safety engagement in your workplace: 👉 Encourage Open Communication: Create channels where employees can freely report safety concerns without fear of retribution. 📢 👉 Regular Training: Keep safety skills sharp with regular training sessions. This keeps safety at the forefront of everyone’s mind and ensures all team members are up-to-date with the best practices. 👩🎓 👉 Recognition Programs: Recognize and reward employees who actively contribute to creating a safer workplace. This can motivate others to follow suit. 🕵♀️ By implementing these strategies, we can all contribute to a safer working environment. What techniques do you use to boost safety engagement at your workplace? Let’s share ideas and best practices! 🏢🛡️ #NationalSafetyMonth #SafetyEngagement #WorkplaceSafety

Empowering Linemen to Challenge Assumptions and Build Safer Workplaces | Keynote Speaker on Workplace Safety Transformation
In our safety journeys, embracing change is not just a choice—it’s a necessity. My journey, particularly the harrowing experience of surviving an electrical accident that could have been fatal, underscored this truth in ways I could never have anticipated. That day was a stark reminder that safety is not a static achievement but a continuous pursuit. What I’ve learned since that day is that continuous improvement in safety practices is essential. It’s about evolving and adapting to new challenges, informed by every incident, every near-miss, and even the routine days when everything goes according to plan. It’s a commitment to asking, “How can we do better?” and then actively seeking those answers. Here’s how we can live the principle of continuous improvement in our daily safety efforts: • Engage and Empower: I’ve seen firsthand the value of listening to those on the ground. Their insights are critical in shaping effective safety measures. • Learn from Mistakes: My own experience taught me the power of learning from incidents. It’s not about assigning blame but understanding and improving. • Stay Informed: Keeping up with the latest in safety can be a game-changer. Innovations and knowledge evolve, and so should our practices. • Celebrate Progress: Recognizing improvements in safety is crucial. It’s a journey worth celebrating at every milestone, reinforcing the importance we place on keeping each other safe. My journey from a lineman to a safety advocate has been driven by the belief that we can always do better in protecting ourselves and our colleagues. Let’s make continuous improvement a foundational element of our safety culture. Together, we can build safer workplaces and communities. #SafetyCulture #ContinuousImprovement #WorkplaceSafety #SafetyLeadership #PersonalJourney

Observation and Team-Management Processes. Today’s behavioral safety systems have two distinct elements: a behavioral observation process and a team-based management process. Both of these elements are critical. The observation process is an educational process that encourages employees to work more safely on the job. The team-based management process ensures the maintenance of the observation process and ensures that the process is adaptive to a changing workplace.
