This week, I had the privilege of speaking at the March AFCEA PACIFIC NORTHWEST CHAPTER luncheon, where we engaged in a robust dialogue about the critical nexus of cybersecurity and our educational infrastructure. Distinguished technology and thought leaders from various industries joined us to explore: Educational Infrastructure Importance: We dove into the pivotal role that educational institutions play in shaping our society. From K-12 schools to universities, our education system forms the bedrock of progress. Cybersecurity Challenges: We dissected the risks and threats faced by educational institutions—ranging from data breaches to sophisticated cyberattacks. Safeguarding student information, research data, and intellectual property remains paramount. Protective Measures: I shared recommended steps for fortifying our educational infrastructure. From robust network security to user awareness training, we discussed practical strategies to mitigate risks. Training Resources: Education empowers resilience. We explored resources for training educators, students, and administrators in cybersecurity best practices. Knowledge dissemination is key to building a secure digital future. Much of the current available evidence around SMEs and cyber security is severely limited. For example, sample sizes used in most surveys are either too small or omit certain SMEs entirely (particularly sole traders who make up 78% of businesses in London alone). That's why the CyCOS project being run by Queen Mary University of London, the University of Nottingham and the University of Kent is so important. It forms part of a huge 30-month project that seeks to develop a better understanding of the needs of small businesses in relation to cyber security and their awareness/perceptions of the support currently available. With the ever expanding technological landscape, cybersecurity is more essential than ever.

In the realm of cybersecurity, I find myself immersed in a whirlwind of discovery, navigating through the intricate web of algorithms and encryption keys. As a CyberGirls Fellowship participant in my third week of training, the realization dawns upon me that cybersecurity love isn't merely a fleeting infatuation but a profound commitment demanding unwavering dedication. It's in the relentless pursuit of knowledge, the countless hours deciphering complex code, and the resilient spirit required to withstand the ever-evolving landscape of digital threats. Each day brings forth new challenges, yet with each challenge conquered, I find myself growing stronger, more resolute in my pursuit. Amidst the labyrinth of protocols and protocols, I come to understand that cybersecurity love isn't for the faint-hearted; it's a journey of resilience, perseverance, and unyielding passion. And as I delve deeper into the realm of cybersecurity, hand in hand with my fellow CyberGirls, I realize that together, we are not just students, but guardians of a digital world, forging a path towards a safer and more secure future. Am still in this fellowship and am still going strong, I won't be shaken.

I'm excited to share the results of my personal project in the Cybergirls Fellowship! As part of my training, I conducted a Network Traffic Analysis using Wireshark. Here’s a brief overview of the process: * Captured and analyzed network traffic: I started by capturing network traffic using Wireshark, which involved monitoring data packets transmitted over the network. * Identified DNS queries and responses: By filtering the captured data, I identified DNS queries and responses, which are crucial for resolving domain names into IP addresses. * Examined each packet for detailed insights: I analyzed each packet to understand the data flow and identify any anomalies or patterns. * Identified domain names accessed by network hosts:  I pinpointed the domain names accessed by various network hosts, gaining insights into their browsing behavior and network activity. * Addressed potential DNS issues in the packets: I identified and addressed potential DNS issues associated with the packets, such as unresolved queries or misconfigurations, which could impact network performance and security. This project has enhanced my understanding of network communication and security and I believe I can do better. I'm excited to apply these skills in real-world scenarios and continue learning in the field of cybersecurity. I'm grateful to the CyberSafe Foundation and my trainer, Segun Ebenezer Olaniyan for their guidance and support.
