On June 6, the @DC Council's Committee on Transportation and the Environment held a public hearing regarding technical amendments to the District’s BEPS, B25-0801: Building Energy Performance Standards Amendment Act of 2024. Public witnesses were generally supportive of the amendments which included updating language for penalties, creating exemptions for financial distress and vacancies, and clarifying the applicability of stormwater regulations to BEPS upgrades. Some witnesses recommended modifications to address residential submetering, district energy, and exterior envelope requirements for consideration under this bill or future amendments. The date for the vote on this bill has yet to be scheduled but is anticipated later this summer. The bill aligns closely with recommendations made by the BEPS Task Force, which continues to meet to propose additional BEPS improvements for the future. https://lnkd.in/eP39Awwn

NUCA applauds House, Congressional action on passage of Water Resources Development Act of 2024. CEO Doug Carlson issued the following statement: “This bipartisan bill will deliver water infrastructure resources to many critical projects around the nation. In a time where fiscal austerity is being discussed, it is important for both House and Senate lawmakers to remember that thousands of American communities depend on federal resources that NUCA members use to build modern subsurface infrastructure systems that deliver clean water and sewer services to tens of millions of Americans.” “Without federal investment in WRDA and many other infrastructure programs, this nation’s economy would come to an abrupt and unnecessary halt. The passage of WRDA 2024 should be seen as an important first step towards next year’s Congressional and Trump Administration support for American water infrastructure projects.” 🌐 https://lnkd.in/eV4DGa7j

150 DCOs in the next five years! Now that's a lot of DCOs! To date 144 applications have been decided since the NSIP regime was introduced. There are 82 applications sitting between the Pre-application to Decision stages, 46 of which are at the Pre-application stage. So there will need to be an almost doubling of applications coming forward, in addition to all applications covering the pre-application to decision stages all being approved in the next four and a half years. Looks like those of us working in the NSIP space are going to be busy! This could be a massive challenge for the Planning Inspectorate, participating local authorities and relevant consultees in terms of time and resource, being perennial themes discussed at the recent NIPA conference. #nsip #dco #infrastructure #energy #renewablenergy
The Prime Minister's 'Plan for Change' speech this morning included a commitment by his government to grant 150 Development Consent Orders or #DCOs for major infrastructure projects over the lifetime of this Parliament. It's a 'big ask', but one that government will need to meet if it's to deliver the level of transformational infrastructure the UK will need over the next five years, and beyond Here's the immediate response from our Chair, Sir John Armitt: #NSIPs #Planning #MajorProjects #energy #water #transport

150 DCO’s in 5 Years. Measuring by Quantity is different from measuring by Quality. Two things to very seriously consider here: ▶️ Wellbeing: Many of those involved in DCO’s (and TWAO’s, Hybrid Bills) experience significant burnout by the end of the process; ▶️ Supply Chain: How much of the supply chain actually delivering the works will be involved in those DCO processes? Quantitative measurement has its place, but what about the measurement of the relations between those people actually doing the work in practice? I'm excited to share that the 2024 Maine ASCE Infrastructure Report Card is now live, and I had the privilege of contributing to the Energy section. This report provides an in-depth look at the state of Maine’s infrastructure—examining areas like roads, bridges, water systems, and more. It highlights where we’re doing well, where we need improvement, and why investing in infrastructure is crucial for Maine’s future.
The 2024 Report Card for Maine's Infrastructure has been released! Maine received an overall grade of a C, read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/e8MUQtsW
