The new Energy Resilience Plan for the community of Castañer, Puerto Rico is a unique, groundbreaking plan that sets a path forward for local energy resilience in this remote village in the short, medium, and long term, while addressing vulnerabilities caused by natural disasters or other electrical grid failures. The plan builds on a solar energy microgrid the community developed in May 2022 in collaboration with IREC and the Cooperativa Hidroeléctrica de la Montaña. Through this microgrid, Castañer (population 5,500) ensures uninterrupted electricity service to a group of establishments and residences during emergencies. With this new plan, the community aims to minimize the instability in electrical services that continues to impact residents’ quality of life. Access the report now: https://lnkd.in/eCfhAZGn!

I’m just a bill… when I watched the School House Rock video in middle school, I never thought I would be celebrating a bill introduced in front of the House of Representatives that’s based on the research and analysis of Planet Reimagined. Our work on co-location opens up the potential for 18 million new acres of pre-disturbed land for wind and solar in the United States. With the leadership of Representative John Curtis and Representative Mike Levin, today, the Co-Location Energy Act was introduced in front of the House of Representatives. This is one step on a long road, but it is an important step and one worth celebrating.

In case you missed it - West Lindsey District Council has formally lodged an objection to the proposed Tillbridge Solar Project in the district. The council is urging the Secretary of State for Energy security and Net Zero, to refuse development consent due to serious concerns over the project’s landscape impact, visual effects, and potential implications for local communities. Building on my previous post about the urgent need to address the energy access gap in Latin America, I'm excited to share a new commentary I co-authored exploring the rise of community-led energy projects in the region. Our analysis reveals a complex landscape, filled with both opportunities and challenges. We discuss the innovative solutions these projects offer to increase energy coverage and improve quality of the service, while also acknowledging hurdles such as lack of regulatory frameworks, financing limitations, and the need for robust community training and support. Read the full review by the International Energy Agency (IEA) that analyzes various initiatives promoting community engagement in the energy transition in Latin America, highlighting #comunenergética #comunidadenergética in Chile☀️ 🌱 full review https://lnkd.in/eczXiCqv Energy Communities are emerging in different shapes and forms "Several countries in the region have already introduced programmes to support the creation of community-led energy initiatives. Chile, for instance, has a robust track record in promoting citizen engagement in the energy sector with initiatives like Energy Commune (Comuna Energética) and Energy Community (Comunidad Energética). The Energy Commune programme draws inspiration from European initiatives, where municipalities play a central role in forming collectives that engage citizens in a variety of energy-related projects, including renewable energy generation, energy efficiency improvements, and educational programmes. The Energy Communities programme, on the other hand, is a periodic competition organised by governments that finances energy-related and sustainability projects proposed by grassroots organisations, universities, and community groups."
