📢 New brief published, providing information to support the planning and implementation of trainings for health workers in fragile settings. Partner USAID MOMENTUM has just published a brief in which they share lessons learned from two blended training models implemented in South Sudan. One of these models was the World Health Organization Essential Newborn Care 1 training model, with the aim to increase local health resilience and build newborn care capacity through delivery of this standardized and globally recognized program. At the World Congress on Rehabilitation (WCR 2024) – a global gathering of innovators, experts, and leaders in the field, organized by Rehabilitation International (RI Global), the International Social Security Association (ISSA) and Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination (ZHO) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, 23–25 September 2024 - Dr. Mohammed Azman Aziz, the President of ISSA, shared: " (…) Social security systems and social security institutions are uniquely placed to make an important impact in rehabilitation and should be drivers for rehabilitation in all countries. The vision should be clear: we should do our utmost to help people with disabilities with appropriate rehabilitation measures and promote labour market inclusion. However, this is easier said then done and there are many challenges, financial, institutional, technical and more. To overcome these challenges, leverage new technologies and ensure the spread of innovation, international exchanges of learning are key. For this reason, the International Social Security Association (ISSA) has established a dedicated Working Group on Rehabilitation (IWGR) that has played a pivotal role in promoting a cross-sectoral, people-centred approach to rehabilitation in social security. And this is also the reason why the ISSA has become a co-organizer of this World Congress. In collaboration with RI and ZHO, I believe this Congress provides a unique opportunity to learn, share and be inspired about the latest developments and innovations as regards rehabilitation and work and employment. #mental_health_care #article_summery • Mental health (MH) is increasingly recognized as a major cause of disability worldwide. • Saudi Arabia (SA) has a network of Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs) providing free medical care. • SA's Vision 2030 aims to improve and expand PHCs, including MH services integration. • Integrating MH services into PHCs offers: - Better access to care - Reduced stigma - Improved health outcomes - More holistic treatment approach • Currently, most MH funding in SA goes to: - Salaries for MH professionals in hospitals - Infrastructure development - Training MH experts • MH expenditure in SA: - 4% of total healthcare budget - 78% allocated to mental hospitals • Challenges: - Need for more diverse funding sources - Requirement for strategic planning and evaluation • Recommended implementation indicators include: - Number of MH professionals - Access to treatments - Supervision and referral routes - Infrastructure for confidential consultations • The new Mental Health Act in SA is expected to improve patient rights implementation.

But also between countries and cultures, health systems organization, social and health policies. And between colleagues that become friends from allover the world!. This is the spirit of WHO-FIC Familiy of International Classifications. Much more that just speaking about codes. #ICF classification contributes to develop a global common language. It is feasible! Difficult sometimes, but it always deserves a try.

Global health stakeholders must address the huge inequalities/inequities experienced by persons with disabilities (PWDs-be it sensory/physical disabilities), by ensuring UHC remains a fundamental right through the ages. However we must recognise that: #NoUHCwithoutAccessToEHC Primary Ear & Hearing Care (EHC) must therefore be mandatorily included within Primary Health Care (PHC), so that UHC could be achieved in a comprehensive manner. This is especially pertinent within LMICs, (e.g. sub-Saharan Africa). UHC can be achieved when all healthcare providers (inclusive of Hearing health providers), community leaders, govts, donor-agencies, PWDs, CSOs & other self-help groups come together, to provide reliable & effective PHC which includes primary EHC! #PrimaryEHCmandatoryForUHC #UHCpanaceaForHealthInequalitiesNPHCDA
