At the World Congress on Rehabilitation (WCR 2024) – a global gathering of innovators, experts, and leaders in the field, organized by Rehabilitation International (RI Global), the International Social Security Association (ISSA) and Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination (ZHO) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, 23–25 September 2024 - Dr. Mohammed Azman Aziz, the President of ISSA, shared: " (…) Social security systems and social security institutions are uniquely placed to make an important impact in rehabilitation and should be drivers for rehabilitation in all countries. The vision should be clear: we should do our utmost to help people with disabilities with appropriate rehabilitation measures and promote labour market inclusion.
However, this is easier said then done and there are many challenges, financial, institutional, technical and more. To overcome these challenges, leverage new technologies and ensure the spread of innovation, international exchanges of learning are key.
For this reason, the International Social Security Association (ISSA) has established a dedicated Working Group on Rehabilitation (IWGR) that has played a pivotal role in promoting a cross-sectoral, people-centred approach to rehabilitation in social security.
And this is also the reason why the ISSA has become a co-organizer of this World Congress. In collaboration with RI and ZHO, I believe this Congress provides a unique opportunity to learn, share and be inspired about the latest developments and innovations as regards rehabilitation and work and employment.
