🌐 Reflecting on Innovations in Healthcare at Abu Dhabi Global Healthcare Week This past week, as I engaged with visionaries and leaders at the Abu Dhabi Global Healthcare Week, I was struck by the ambitious strides being made in the region towards transforming healthcare delivery. A particular slogan by the Department of Health Abu Dhabi caught my attention: "Future-forward, data-enabled services to shift from healthcare to health." 🔍 While I commend the forward-thinking approach that emphasizes prevention and healthier living, the notion of entirely removing #care from the healthcare narrative gives me to profoundly think about it. Healthcare, in its essence, involves caring – not just preventing or managing. It's about supporting people through their health journeys, not just steering them away from illness. 🧬 As we embrace digital health and innovative technologies, our focus should indeed shift towards enhancing health rather than merely treating disease. As Head of Healthcare at Portuguese Business Council - UAE, I had the privilege of leading Portuguese business delegations to two pivotal healthcare events: the #PrecisionMedicine Conference in Dubai and the Abu Dhabi Global Health Week (ADGHW). Both events showcased the incredible potential of collaboration between Portuguese and Emirati institutions. #ADGHW, in particular, was a whirlwind of groundbreaking discussions and transformative healthcare breakthroughs. It was inspiring to connect with thought leaders, fellow healthcare pioneers, local mentors (and friends) who are shaping the future of healthcare, from Abu Dhabi to the world. Enlighting talks explored cutting-edge advancements in genomics, preventive health, AI & precision medicine, longevity, and much more. These areas represent the future of healthcare, and the Portuguese and Emirati delegations participated actively in discussions on how we can leverage them for the benefit of all. The synergy between Portuguese and Emirati institutions was truly remarkable. These 2 weeks were filled with productive meetings, clinical discussions, investment decisions, and the forging of partnerships and cooperation agreements (PPPs, FDIs, and research initiatives). This collaboration holds immense promise for the success of future bilateral projects, contributing significantly to both nations' healthcare landscapes. Abu Dhabi's unwavering commitment to creating a futuristic, sustainable healthcare hub that aims to "democratize longevity" is truly inspiring. Witnessing their dedication to preventative and personalized care firsthand fills me with optimism for the future of global healthcare. The Portuguese-Emirati collaboration in healthcare is a beacon of innovation and progress.
