To the waiter at the restaurant who didn’t take notes, just to come back twice to clarify the orders: Those notepads that you have there are really useful. Especially when the party of four orders appetizers, drinks, and main courses at once. Unless, of course, you are exceptionally good at memorizing things. Here are 7 ways to get better at remembering stuff: -- PS: Having learned four foreign languages to fluency and run a language course for 400+ students, I have plenty more memory techniques up my sleeve - they just don’t apply well in the context of short-term memory. The idea that memory is just some fixed quantity that you can’t improve holds so many people back. I took a memory course a few years ago and it was the first time I realized that memory is actually a skill that can be trained intentionally. There are techniques that can be learned and honed.
