Without sounding pessimistic, I think the horse has bolted for the industry especially for restaurants…….. The cost to serve a plate of quality food in a decent restaurant, far exceeds what people can afford to pay. It is absolutely NO FAULT Of the proprietor in my opinion whatsoever…. Putting issues like rent of premises aside, and labour costs, it’s all the other costs that add up as a whole.. Inflation isn’t coming down any time soon! I was thinking about how much expense is really involved…..in say comparison to other services like say hairdressing. For instance a men’s basic hair cut in a barber shop let’s say on average is $40 for example. It is performed by one person only in a small space without all the stuff that is required to serve a meal. No ingredients, no chefs, no waiters, no dishwashers etc, etc, etc. and in and out in 15-20 mins… Compare that to the hospitality business, to come out with a similar profit outcome they would need to sell mains double what they are now at minimum!!! Seriously I don’t believe people can afford to pay that. Apart from Corporate’s and higher net wealth individuals. That’s the reality of where we are. Everything is on borrowed time and borrowed money…
