My latest Education Next on universal choice, how the public schools keep the rich in their political coalition, and what it will take to protect and grow choice programs for all families. "If the rich are not in your coalition, you have a weak coalition. If they don’t benefit from your policy, you have a policy that will be difficult to maintain. It is just that simple."

The systems used to open schools are crucial for ensuring the safety of learners, training and preparing faculty and staff, and more. Many primary school applications in England and Wales have now closed. If you are applying and missed the application deadline do not worry, you can still apply, but will need to wait until after the first round of applications have been processed. Lots to dig into here. Implications for public schools are numerous and concerning. EPPs who prepare teachers for public schools must also consider these shifts.

But the lane of education has always been wide and winding, ranging from compulsory schooling nearly two centuries ago to desegregated schools several decades ago. In this issue, both phenomena–compulsory education (children are required to go to school) and education desegregation (all children should have access to public schools without discrimination)–are core in this issue, though neither term is specifically named. Also core is the need for a combination of care and knowledge, as these are vital to student and community success”. It’s clear that all kids in the United States are expected to go to school. But on the topic of recent migration increases, there seems to be a divide as to how we can best serve Newcomer Students. Our hope as a journal is for our audience to read through our content with an open mind and open heart. We’d like to encourage you to listen more than you speak. Listening might be the very practice that helps us to create more understanding as to how we can learn from the experiences of Newcomer Students. Public education isn’t dying. The majority of students still attend traditional public schools, and if current trends persist, will continue to do so for decades. Conservatives who care about America’s near-future cannot afford to abandon traditional public schools. In addition to advocating school choice, state-level policy-makers and school-board members must also push for improvements in public education such as early reading reforms and sane student discipline policies. https://lnkd.in/g2Tw8g3J
