This subject came up at one of my recent talks, about changing down through the gears on approach to a hazard. Years ago, we used to do this as that's how we were taught. But not any more. The more recent methodology is to use 'one brake and one gear' when negotiating hazards. Here's me explaining how this works. Then moving onto a subject that so many get wrong - "emerging safely from junctions" because drivers often "look .. but don't see." Here I explain the safest method; checking to the right first, followed by checking left, then right, then left again. Just before you emerge, one final check to the right as that where the greatest danger comes from. Once you've joined the new road, check mirrors for instant rearward awareness (what's happening behind you). Always look *right* last before leaving the junction!!
