Western world mining companies need to pay urgent attention to the benefits that could emerge by working with far greater cognisance to the far-reaching strides that have been taken by the Eastern world and its beneficiation efficiencies, reports Mining Weekly from a June 25 session of the London Indaba. While miners are mining and manufacturers are making products with metals and minerals, China in particular is beneficiating in-between in a way that brings very significant competitiveness. “In general, the Chinese companies are hungrier, more tolerant of failure, much faster and, most important, they are looking at the long-term success” John Thornton outlined at the event. The Fraser Institute Survey of Mining Companies 2023 highlights the strength of Botswana as a mining jurisdiction, where our Letlhakane Uranium Project is located. The Policy Perception Index pictured below provides a comprehensive assessment of the attractiveness of mining policies in a jurisdiction, and can serve as a report card to governments on how attractive their policies are from the point of view of an exploration manager. Lotus is the only uranium player with a project in Botswana, which is ranked at an impressive #4 on the list out of 86 jurisdictions globally. Botswana remains the top jurisdiction in Africa by a long way (Morocco is next at #12, followed by Namibia at #33) and sits behind top three Utah, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
