"Developing Intelligent Space Systems: A Survey and Rubric for Future Missions" Mary Dahl, Christine Page, Kerri Cahoy Massachusetts Institute of Technology- Evana Gizzi NASA Goddard Space Flight Center- ABSTRACT "Space exploration continues to inspire the development of advanced technologies to explore the universe. From moon landings and the Mars rovers to the recent successful deployment of the James Webb Telescope, space exploration continues to push the limits of what is possible in both science and technology and to pave new ways for the discovery of our galaxy. While we have seen great advancements and barriers broken, we remain limited in our ability to optimize science discovery without onboard intelligent capabilities to enable complex system missions. In this paper, we focus on AI technologies and cross-disciplinary directions for sparking research and development for space applications. This paper attempts to bridge two disparate fields of research, to enhance the development of intelligent space systems by providing a comprehensive survey of existing technologies and showcasing a strategic rubric for future advancements." https://lnkd.in/gsvR_eVm

🚀 Sierra Space Passes NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Ultimate Burst Pressure Test for Inflatable Space Habitat... Sierra Space has recently marked a significant milestone in space exploration technology. Their inflatable space habitat, the Large Integrated Flexible Environment (LIFE) module, successfully passed NASA's demanding "ultimate burst pressure" test. Key Highlights:🌟 🔹The LIFE module withstood a staggering 77 psi before bursting, outperforming NASA's safety standards by 27%. 🔹This test, conducted at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, proves the module's robustness against extreme pressures. 🔹Sierra Space's collaboration with ILC Dover, employing advanced materials like Vectran straps, ensures both reliability and safety. 🔹This success paves the way for Sierra Space's ambitious plan to partner with Blue Origin and launch a private space station by the end of this decade. The LIFE module, over 20-feet-tall, represents a leap forward in creating habitable spaces in low Earth orbit using innovative, inflatable structures. This cost-effective and sustainable approach to space habitats could revolutionize our presence in space. How do you think inflatable habitats will change the future of space exploration? https://lnkd.in/er8wVpzX #SpaceInnovation #SierraSpace #LIFEModule #SpaceTechnology #FutureOfSpaceExploration

U.S. State – Texas What do you see? Comprising a sprawling complex of 100 buildings in the Clear Lake Area of Houston – NASA's Johnson Space Center earned the city its enduring nickname "Space City" in 1967. Over the next 50 days, I’ll be sharing a series of posters, each distilling the essence of a U.S. state into a minimalistic design. My goal is to strip away the unnecessary and focus on the core of what each state represents – to me. What do you think represents this state?

One of the best articles that we have ever published in my humble, space obsessed, opinion 🐁🚀 NASA (and other space agencies) send mice to the moon... well, not quite, but they do make it to low Earth orbit! Mice on the ISS are studied to learn about the effects of low gravity on mammalian bodies, as well as providing unique insight into the study of animal and human diseases. I can't imagine what those little mice would be thinking as they leave the atmosphere and become weightless. What a strange experience for them! But know that much care and attention is put into the transportation of animals to space, and mice are rarely sent to the ISS, with worms and flies being the preferred species for research in low Earth orbit. #SpaceWeek #WorldSpaceWeek
To participate in World Space Week, we wrote an article about current space research and how animals are used to better understand life in space. There is a long history of animals being sent to space. Still today, NASA and other agencies send animals to the International Space Station, from nematodes to mice. Why? Learn about the how's and why's in our new article, and hear from experts like Dr Julie Keeble, Director of Biological Services at King's College London, to hear about the role of animals in space research. “This work is going to change the future of humanity," shares Dr Keeble. "I think it is so important that a new generation of scientists that is able to understand life in space better, be engaged in space, and there may well be a future population in space.” Read here: https://lnkd.in/e5SxkYh8 #WorldSpaceWeek
