Colleagues, This is an urgent request for renewable energy and all Wisconsin stakeholders!  Vista Sands Solar Farm, near the towns of Plover and Grant in Portage County - central Wisconsin, is a transformational solar facility undergoing Wisconsin’s permitting process as we speak! The window to comment in support of the project closes on Friday, August 16! The Issue - 🔎 🔍 There are some in opposition (mainly hunters and some birdwatchers according to a recent article) to the renewable energy facility because it is near a Greater Prairie Chicken habitat. What you should know -💡 The renewable energy facility is located on what is currently intensively-farmed conventional agriculture land. None of it will be built on the existing Greater Prairie Chicken habitat. What else you should know - 💡 💡 The biggest driver of Prairie Chicken decline has been the conversion of grassland to conventional agriculture which started in the late 1800s and early 1900s.... long before renewable solar facilities as we know them now existed, and this project will help mitigate that.  Unmitigated climate change causing extreme heat, drought, and heavy rainfall can have negative impacts on grassland bird species like Prairie Chicken and Prairie Grouse, and this project will help mitigate that.
