Jason Ryan: Thank you for sharing. Jason Wells, I commend you for standing your ground and not resigning. Thank you for withdrawing the rate increase. These decisions convey several important messages: 1. We must put an end to #cancelculture. Leaders are appointed to lead. If Jason resigns, what message are we sending to future leaders and our children? That there's no room for mistakes? That quitting is the answer if you fail to meet expectations? 2. Regain customer confidence and trust. A rate increase is not right at this time. Absorb some of those costs to take accountability. Was the #Beryl communication and execution as effective as we had hoped? No. Can it be improved? Absolutely! What should CenterPoint Energy do now? Conduct an after-action review to identify what worked well, what didn’t, what will be done differently, and implement the changes immediately. If there is no improvement before, during, and after the next storm, who should be held accountable? Jason Wells, his leadership team, and the employees. Jason's leadership role is crucial, and he should reconsider it if similar issues arise in the future. But not now. Now is the time for accountability, action, and improvement. Fantastic nationally televised briefing by the Whitehouse on Hurricane Milton today. Having ADM Fagan, COMDT USCG, updating USCG efforts as one of the key components to this response in coordination with FEMA, USACOE, other federal agencies, and local commercial/port entities is so important. Well done! In my many years in federal emergency management, I worked with senior leadership in all the above mentioned agencies/entities, to emphasizing the importance of the USCG’s response capabilities and ensured USCG leadership had a seat at the table as decision makers. Important thing to remember in all of this, State Governors set the priorities of the response, resources are limited (they just are), and FEMA provides support as needed/requested by the respective Governors. This an all government response… not just FEMA.

What a great idea to get journalists, government officials and emergency management together to discuss hurricane communication and coverage. I think it’s important to have this discussion ahead of hurricane season to talk strategy and correspondence when it comes to critical information that impacts the communities we serve. STEAR: State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry 🌀📝 Hurricane season officially begins on June 1, and many Houstonians are already preparing and bracing. All predictions for 2024 indicate an “active” season: 54 percent chance of at least one hurricane landing somewhere along the Texas Gulf Coast, and a 7 percent chance (nearly twice that in a typical year) that a major hurricane will cause major problems for Houston. Preparing for large-scale emergencies—and especially living through one—is tough enough for “average” citizens. It’s a nightmare for anyone with special medical needs, or a shortage of evacuation options.
