This legislation aims to establish a Geospatial Workforce Pilot Program that could be housed at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency campus in St. Louis. It would be interesting to understand if there is a future plan to make the information available as open data or free access to companies involved in the Utilities or wider construction industry who need to consider asset owner equipment as part of the planning, design and construction Activities. The ability to access this information from one source would be extremely beneficial in terms of compliance with HSG47 and GS6 guidelines. The process for obtaining asset records currently is time consuming and in some cases commercially restrictive to the provision of robust planning activities which ensure that compliance with the CDM regulations is achieved. The provision of free or reasonable cost access to a central point of information for all involved in the planning and construction of equipment that interfaces with underground and overhead utilities assets would have a significant impact on improving workplace safety, the reduction of lost time accidents and improve the efficiency of planning activities and associated construction projects which can only serve to increase economic output.
