📢#ICIC24 Session 11.A Learning from the hard reality of trying to create integrated care is available on YouTube! Chaired by Dr. Arturo Alvarez-Rosete, International Foundation for Integrated Care (IFIC). Politicians and leaders across the world have committed to ambitious drives for integration. But achieving this has often been remarkably challenging, raising questions about commitment, changing course, whether aspirations were realistic, and which policy levers are genuinely helpful. What can we learn from integration initiatives across the world, both from research and from those who have led change? What are the sometimes-difficult lessons we can take from this as many policymakers and managers begin new and deeper cycles of change? This unique session brings together learning derived from research from the Nuffield Trust and the practical learning from system leaders in Catalonia, the Basque Country and Wales to provide attendees with an opportunity to reflect on what works when seeking to integrate care. 🤝 This week, healthcare policymakers from the Netherlands gathered with #PHSSR member organisation representatives in The Hague to discuss ways to strengthen the local health system.     The meeting, held at Nieuwspoort, was an important opportunity to discuss the latest research findings from PHSSR and the Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM) on strengths and weaknesses of the Dutch health system, as well as the policy intentions of the new cabinet and recommendations to tackle the pressing issues it faces, with specific focus on:    🏦 The financial stability of the Dutch health system and mechanisms to sustainably finance care and cure 👩⚕️ Growing workforce shortages    These challenges – and the potential ramifications if they are not acted on – underline the critical need for a robust and adaptable health system. CHiAPRT is delighted to announce that it will be working as part of the recently announced NHMRC Synergy Grants: Stronger Together As Unified Nations for Community-led Health (STAUNCH).  STAUNCH will strengthen First Nation’s capacity for self-governance and prepare policymakers for new relationship-based approaches focused on collaborative health solutions that deal with intersecting social, political, economic, and environmental challenges. Led by Professor Veronica Matthews from the University of Sydney and a range of highly skilled First Nations researchers, the project will generate new evidence on Indigenous Nation Building processes centred on health and wellbeing solutions that deal with intersecting social, political, economic, and environmental challenges collaboratively and effectively. Alongside the focus on Indigenous Nation Building, the Project will work with First Nation knowledge holders to adapt the WHO Health in All Policies 4 Pillars Model to reflect Aboriginal ways of knowing, being, and doing. HiAP frameworks articulate the conditions, functions, and capacities needed within government sectors to sustain collaborative approaches. This will be the first time that Health in All Policies has been considered through an Indigenous lens, and will further the development and promotion of holistic care models both in Australia and internationally. A dual approach of Indigenous Nation Building and Health in All Policies offers a pathway for community to play a substantive role in policy and service implementation. 🌟 Case Study: Building a Fairer, Healthier Cheshire and Merseyside “Working with Advancing Quality Alliance (Aqua) we have pushed the boundaries and challenged each others thinking around Anchors. I am proud to say we gained followers, collaboration and integration. The work opened doors for broader conversations and eased the way in a superb case for change.” Dave Sweeney, NHS Cheshire and Merseyside 💬 We partnered with Champs Public Health Collaborative’s anchor institutions and All Together Fairer programme teams to enhance the anchor work in Cheshire and Merseyside. 🎯 Our Goal To expand the anchor work, uniting public, private and third sector organisations under the shared mission ‘to build a fairer, healthier Cheshire and Merseyside’. 💡 What We Did To drive this initiative forward, we collaborated closely with the anchor institutions and All Together Fairer teams by delivering: 🔹 Alignment Workshop: We facilitated a workshop for strategic leaders to visually map and align various programmes supporting anchors and social determinants of health in the region. 🔹 Opportunity Assessments: We conducted 17 discussions with public health leaders across 9 local authorities to assess current activities and identify growth opportunities within the anchor framework. 🔹 Final Workshops: Insights from these discussions were shared in a workshop, leading to actionable recommendations for the Directors of Public Health in Cheshire and Merseyside. ⭐ Our Impact 🔸 Provided clear insights into regional strengths and development needs for future plans. 🔸 Gained approval and implementation of recommendations which are currently being rolled out across Cheshire and Merseyside. 🔸 Increased engagement with the initiative and developed greater connections between teams.
