SafeLives Scotland's newest report launches today: "The Role of Small and/or Specialist Services in an Effective Multi-agency Response". Through our engagements with professionals involved in multi-agency systems across Scotland, we have been hearing about inconsistencies in the response to cases that involve victims from marginalised communities, and those who experience additional barriers to accessing support. We consulted 15 small and/or specialist services to better understand the role they have within the multi-agency response, as well as the experiences of victim/survivors they support. This report consolidates the findings from those consultations as well as offering 10 recommendations to improve the response victims receive in order to make all victims safer, sooner. Why the apathy ? Nine of our countrymen lost their lives in a cowardly act yesterday in J & K . Thirty three survivors will never forget this traumatic event., and may face disabilities all their life. I do not sense the moral outrage about what happened. Nobody questioning the administration as to how militants effortlessly cross our fortified borders and impact the lives of innocent citizens and soldiers. Regularly. Who provides local assistance. Who gives them shelter and helps them to escape. How can events like these be prevented in future. What steps does the Government need to take to ensure these recurring events stop permanently. And when can we hope to see any tangible change ? And most importantly why are we so apathetic about this brutal attack on our nation. Why ?

Dynamic Leader in Financial & Healthcare Governance | Strategist in Compliance, Risk Management & Implementation | Advocate for Equity & Wellbeing | Forging Collaborative Relationships with a Cultural Perspective
I joined the VOISE Partner Call this morning. It was a great opportunity to hear the dialogue and the diverse, supportive relationships working together on mass care operations and emergency assistance. Thank you for the invitation, FEMA! Summary in one word… PREPAREDNESS. Preparedness is vital, especially when it comes to lifesaving, emergent situations and solutions. Being prepared is something that all of us know, regardless of the topic or focus. Being prepared gives us confidence. You must practice how you play and never stop practicing. The collaboration in the “room” was inspiring. A few highlights… - Simple, clear plans are more effective than complex, chaotic strategies. - Preparedness planning must include a focus on funding and equitable resource allocation across all communities. - Strengthen supply chain management and local logistics to efficiently get resources where they need to be. - Effective collaboration with local Emergency Managers and local Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) is essential to enhancing mass response capabilities. Collaboration must be strong across federal, state, tribal and local sectors. - Leveraging all available resources, including partnerships with local organizations and faith-based groups, is critical as they will serve as the local "army" in disaster recovery efforts. - Encourage the National Governor’s Association to prioritize mass care by creating a registry of NGOs, educate them in disaster response and recovery and identify points of contact. - The number of volunteers is decreasing. Promote the need for increased public training on disaster preparedness and the promotion of volunteerism. The next VOISE Partner Call will be held on Monday, November 4, 2024, on the topic of Disaster Communications.
Join our Voluntary Agency Liaisons next Monday, September 16, for a webinar on the fundamental role of a collaborative approach between federal, state, tribal, and nongovernmental organizations for mass care emergency assistance. The conversation will address diverse aspects of mass care to illustrate how leveraging the combined resources and expertise of the public and private sectors enhances the effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability of mass care operations to help people before, during and after disasters. The webinar will be supported by closed captioning and American Sign Language (ASL). Webinar Information: • Topic: Strength in Unity, The Power of Mass Care Partnerships • Date: Monday, September 16, 2024 • Time: 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. ET • Register: https://lnkd.in/ePNA-Zyh

Modern slavery persists in the UK due to systemic flaws and inadequate support for survivors, as highlighted in After Exploitation's report, "A Can of Worms: Challenges and Opportunities in Gathering Modern Slavery Evidence". Government agencies must improve data accuracy, transparency, and survivor support to combat exploitation effectively. Legislative reforms are needed to ensure survivors' rights and well-being. Policymakers must heed these findings and take immediate action. Read more about the report and its implications: https://lnkd.in/efhPedVn
