The Fair Housing Five and The Haunted House was written by the Greater New Orleans Fair Housing Action Center and Illustrated by Sharika Mahdi. This year, Dothan Housing wanted to contribute to our local community’s knowledge of Fair Housing in a fun way. Dothan Housing petitioned its friends at the Dothan Houston County Library System to add the book to the library. After following the procedure, the book passed the Director’s inspection! This was an excellent way to connect with our community and our local library during Fair Housing Month as we continue to bring awareness to affordable housing and its many aspects! The initiative described above is another excellent example of being a good #CorporateNeighbor and exposing citizens to corporate/agency/organization ideas in a way that is fun and benefits the community. #YouAreOurWhy #TheFairHousingFive #fairhousing #fairhousingact #affordablehousing #housing discrimination #library #books #learningisfun #LoveDothan

When folks come to me and ask why we at United Way haven’t “solved” poverty yet here is one aspect of that conversation that bears repeating and deserves exploration... Housing, policy, influx of investments, and so on. The issue is complex. Check out the series linked below for a bit more:
Does the lack of affordable housing in San Francisco affect Oakland? Does it affect Vallejo? YES. Check out this clip from EP 4 of our Just A Moment series that explains why we are focussed on a bigger picture of supporting #HousingJustice across all 8 Bay Area counties. Hasler-White Inclusive Facilitation finds the solutions your organisation needs.Rooted in experience, I deliver uniquely inclusive workshops for organisations tackling complex problems & seeking ideas & sustainability.
The problem of supply and demand 🏡 💡 Demand for affordable housing massively outstrips supply. If local councils want to manage the overwhelming shortage of housing, then having local residents that understand and feel empowered about their housing options, is a part of the solution. It plays a part in: 🏡 dignity, relationships and respect - knowledge is power 🏡 making sure that only those that should be on the list are on the list 🏡 agency - knowing your options gives you more confidence in knowing what you’re aiming for We make time for these conversations as well as bring our expertise around housing to the conversation. In this visually engaging example with Emmaus UK in Colchester, Emily Newman explored all the different places people have lived before (grey dots), where they’d like to live (red dots) and where people are going to aim for now (green dots). They compared the different pros and cons to decide which to move forward with and what they should do next. Thank you Colchester Borough Homes for supporting this work and seeing its value 🙏 Claire Staddon #housing #homelessness #safeandsecurehome #councils #prevention #dignity #values #skillsforlife

🏡 **Understanding Housing Rights: A Fundamental Aspect of Human Dignity** In today's world, housing is more than just a roof over our heads; it's a cornerstone of stability, security, and dignity. Yet, many are still unaware of their housing rights or face challenges in accessing safe and affordable homes. Housing rights encompass the right to adequate shelter, protection from forced evictions, and access to essential services. These rights are critical for ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to live in a safe, healthy, and dignified environment. 🔑 **Key Aspects of Housing Rights:** 1. **Accessibility:** Ensuring that housing is available to all, including marginalized communities. 2. **Affordability:** Making sure that housing costs do not compromise other basic needs. 3. **Habitability:** Guaranteeing that homes are safe and provide adequate space and facilities. 4. **Security of Tenure:** Protecting individuals from arbitrary eviction and ensuring legal security. As professionals, we can advocate for better policies, support community initiatives, and educate others about their rights. Let's work together to create a world where everyone has access to safe and affordable housing. Join me in raising awareness and taking action to uphold housing rights for all! 🏠💪 #HousingRights #HumanRights #AffordableHousing #CommunitySupport #SocialJustice #ProfessionalCommuniyty

"As we face the housing crisis, it's critical to remember that housing is not just a structure—it's a home. And for over 65,000 years, this land has been home to Indigenous communities whose sovereignty was never ceded. At Anika Legal's Housing Justice Forum, we took a moment to reflect on how ongoing dispossession impacts the safety and security of traditional owners today." Watch this clip from our 2024 Housing Justice Forum panel discussion to hear more about how we can acknowledge this history as we work toward a fairer housing system. Fair Housing Friday: President's Day Weekend Edition! The Fair Housing Act was passed in 1968, but the language of the law requires continual effort to make our communities more just. A portion of the FHA requires governments and organizations to be "Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing," or in other words, to proactively take actions to overcome patterns of segregation, promote fair housing choice, eliminate disparities in opportunities, and foster inclusive communities free from discrimination.
