HAMPTON, VA — A significant traffic shift at the entrance of the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel VDOT said could begin as early as May 1 hasn’t happened yet. According to Communications Manager Paula Miller, the traffic shift onto the new eastbound trestle at the Hampton shoreline will likely not happen “before Thursday evening.” She said May 1 was the target date, and while crews are close to completing the work, they are still finishing up the final touches. She did not have an exact date or time, but said when it does happen, it will be overnight so the shift will already be in place by the morning commute. The traffic shift will affect drivers traveling from Hampton to Norfolk on Interstate 64. Traffic will permanently shift to the right at the Hampton shoreline onto the newly constructed North Trestle as part of the HRBT’s $3.9 billion expansion project. Once the shift is complete, crews will begin work to the demolish the previous trestle. Digital signage will be in place to direct traffic. The shift comes about two weeks after another major development in the expansion. Mary the tunnel boring machine completed the first of two new tunnels for the project. The overall project, which started in November 2020, is now not expected to be fully complete until August 2027. When the expansion is completed, there will be two tunnels going both north and south at the HRBT. The long-anticipated 540 Highway project in North Carolina has reached a significant milestone with the opening of its first phase, a critical 18-mile stretch connecting NC-55 Bypass Apex to the I-40/I-42 interchange in Garner. This infrastructure project, led by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), is a game-changer for the region, promising to ease commutes, support economic growth in small towns like Fuquay Varina, and enhance overall connectivity in the Triangle area. While portions of the project are still under construction, including the eastbound half of Bells Lake Road, the westbound section will be open to drivers. The NCDOT encourages commuters to utilize the NC Quick Pass to reduce toll costs, providing an efficient solution for those traveling the expressway. The Complete 540 project is far from over. Phase two, which will extend the expressway an additional 10 miles to the I-540/I-87/U.S. 64/U.S. 264 interchange in Knightdale, is set to fill the critical "missing link" to create a fully connected loop around the Triangle. As this infrastructure evolves, it will boost commuter efficiency, drive regional economic development, and solidify the area’s role as a critical transportation hub. This project highlights the importance of long-term planning and investment in modern, scalable solutions for transportation and infrastructure leaders to meet the growing demands of rapidly expanding urban centers.

According to a report from the American Road & Transportation Builders Association, one in three bridges in the U.S. needs repair or replacement. We partner with agencies nationwide to ensure local bridges are safe and dependable for generations to come. The Vermont Agency of Transportation selected us as the Prime Consultant for Phase 1 design services to rehabilitate nine bridge structures along the Green Mountain Railroad in southern Vermont. Throughout the project, we will look to minimize impacts on rail operations and local cultural or environmental factors. This includes examining innovative bridge replacement options and Accelerated Bridge Construction techniques to reduce onsite construction while considering ease of maintenance and the region’s extreme weather. When working with Rail infrastructure, collecting data efficiently is crucial. This is why we opted to scan the corridor for our client, as they weren't sure if additional information would be needed. Now we can be certain that we are able to answer any questions which may arise as design continues. #Laserscanning #Rail #Surveying #Construction #MadiganSurveying

Plan ahead: #NewYorkRoad tunnel closure for essential maintenance from 12 February. #NewYorkRoadTunnel, located just outside the #LeedsCityCentre and on Leeds #InnerRingRoad, will close to all vehicles on Monday 12 February until the autumn to enable essential maintenance of the #NewYorkRoadFlyover. #LeedsCityCouncil along with construction partner #BalfourBeatty will carry out repair works and replace 27 bearings on #NewYorkRoadFlyover. Bearing replacement on the flyover is a vital process, that whilst only completed generally every 25-50 years, is essential to ensure the serviceable life of the flyover is maintained and subsequently this section of the flyover can remain open in the long term. Modern bridges are designed to make future bearing replacement straight forward. However older bridges, such as the #NewYorkRoadFlyover, require substantial temporary works with heavy equipment including temporary foundations to support the bridge at each bearing. To maintain the structural integrity of the bridge the work needs to be phased and some structural components strengthened https://lnkd.in/ewp3VRuY #LeedsNews #LeedsStar #LeedsStarNewspaper #LeedsCityCouncil #VisitLeeds #LeedsCity #Leeds

A debate that’s lasted for years over whether to build a bridge or a tunnel at the New River crossing in Fort Lauderdale continues. City commissioners voted 3-2 to build a train bridge over the river if a tunnel is too expensive. The debate has been going on for years about how to improve commuter rail in the city. Right now, trains cross a drawbridge that was built in the 70s — but Brightline has been using the tracks more frequently, causing delays for sailboat and yacht traffic on the river.
