Hello everyone! Today, I want to highlight one of our search filters, Area of Focus. When my family and I were recovering from our accidents, we felt it was extremely important for us to find health professionals who also enjoyed the same activities as we did. Why did we do this? As a practicing Kinesiologist before my accident, I thought I had a good idea of how to help my clients, but I had never been on the other side of the fence so that I couldn't say for sure. When it came time to be a client/patient, I was curious to learn as much as possible to help my future clients and fellow professionals. Sharing a common area of focus with my health practitioner, such as a sport or hobby, helped me build a connection with them that fostered my curiosity and engagement in my therapy sessions. I felt understood and supported because they understood the pain and tribulations of reaching a particular goal. This connection was based on a real-world experience that, as a client, I could trust, and it wasn't something a health professional could buy; it had to be earned by participating in the sport or hobby. So, from a patient's perspective, selecting the right health professional who understands the nuances of your hobby or sport goes a long way.
