Developers consistently share a common narrative, highlighting the impracticality of these conversions due to constraints in cost and design. Notably, challenges arise in the form of plumbing and electrical conversions that would be essential but pose significant hurdles. However, there's a noteworthy exception in cities like New York, where these projects are taking place on a limited scale in affluent neighborhoods with more available capital. It piques my curiosity about the direction this trend will take in the near future.
