When organising your measured surveys, bear in mind that having your topographic survey done by the same company that does your underground utility detection or measured building survey saves in many ways. Underground utility detection and measured building surveys (building footprints) need to be located onto a plan or topographic drawing. If you're getting these two surveys completed at the same time then having them done by the same company, such as Powers, means you will get better value for money as the team will already be on site carrying out one of the surveys anyway. It will also save on time as one team can do both surveys, one straight after the other. Other advantages are that there will be continuity of your data as everything on your drawing or 3D model will be coming off the same control network. There will also be seamless integration of the different facets of the survey work because they've been completed by the same person. Oh and you'd have only one point of contact, which cuts down time too. So if you need an underground utility detection (to PAS 128 specification) or a map showing the footprint of your building, check whether there's a topographic survey and if there isn't a recent one, ask us to quote for both of them. I enjoy a good Instagram short on civil engineering around the world, seems that the Indians, Chinese and even the Australians are currently transfixed on solutions that have been tried and failed in Europe and the US, i.e. massive high level double decker viaducts designed to speed cars to their destination… or do they just elevate the congestion above the people that live below these structures. I’d be interested in hearing from engineers in these countries in particular and how this new breed of viaduct intends to avoid the problems we had here in Europe - i.e. there’s not much point getting to the city quicker, if you have to wait in a queue just as long to get off the viaduct once you get to the city.
