Transforming an icon: rescue, restore, rejuvenate! Our final project film of the year and it's a special one, David Watson, Christopher Blust and Charlotte Robinson discuss the challenges and intricacies in #restoring the world's first iron-frame structure and the genesis of all modern steel-framed buildings, Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings. We supported Historic England and Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios to regenerate the 1797 Grade I-listed Main Mill building and its adjoined 1890s-built, Grade II-listed Kiln. Our approach goes beyond simple #conservation, through a performance-based and first principles approach, the building has gained another life, while the historic fabric is concurrently preserved.
