Because culture is so inherently unique from business to business, there is no silver bullet; you just have to put in the time and work. There are, however, a few things that hold true across all organizations: • Having a shared vision and goal is key for a unified team—and that vision can only be brought to life through constant communication and feedback. • Fostering open communication empowers team members to be comfortable addressing issues and taking a proactive approach to problem solving. • There is NO place on your team for toxic individuals; cultivating a positive culture takes time but can be quickly be ruined by even a small amount of negativity. • Celebrate wins, express gratitude for excellent work, and recognize both teams and individuals with gifts, rewards and awards. • Support employees outside of work by providing great benefits, keeping a reasonable and manageable schedule, and assisting them when they're experiencing difficult circumstances at home. Following an earlier workshop where the team delved into their strengths and behaviours and defined the team culture they wanted to protect, this time we met to turn the focus outward. As a team who works continuously with a diverse range of stakeholders, and on a wide range of projects, it was galvanising to walk through the building of an “extension canvas” that was developed specifically for this team and their type of work. The canvas ended up summarising: · the journey they are walking beside people on….and why, · the three key parts to a people centric view of behaviour change, · the key milestones/topics they would encounter along that complex trail, · and using the emotional culture deck to support conversations around how they wanted stakeholders to experience working with them · the key behaviours they committed to in order to uphold that experience ….all on one page. Michael Mills, Some very good points and stories about organizational culture and the management system. Certainly agree about the interrelationships. At a high level, the management system in the organization is comprised of the business Practices we use, the Principles that describe the culture, and the Measures we use to capture results. Interesting to note there are direct relationships (influences) between the Practices and between the Practices and Principles we find in an excellence model that capture what is characteristic of high performing organizations and has been validated by global research (1990 to date). Most issues in organizations can be addressed by understanding the direct relationships and conducting an assessment against an excellence model. Two documents that are helpful include those found at https://lnkd.in/gUpYAh4 (1) Interrelationships - direct relationship between the Practices and Principles. (2) Organizational Excellence Framework - definitions of Principles, Practices and Measures, implementation guidelines, direct relationships. ** Available at no charge so that more organizations can leverage the 'formula for success' that is available with excellence models.
