Those baby boomers. At least according to a new Redfin analysis, which shows that baby boomers, whose kids don't live with them anymore, are clinging to their large homes, making things worse for millennial families looking to settle down. According to the report, empty-nest boomers now own 28% of homes in the US with three or more bedrooms — double the 14% that millennials with kids own. In addition, the report, which was based on analysis of 2022 Census data, there's no city in the country where millennial families own a larger share of big homes than boomers do. https://hubs.la/Q02hv88W0

Baby Boomers Businesses are selling… According to the US Census Bureau, the growth rate of the 65-and-over population will continue to be three times greater than that of the total population growth rate through 2030. Statistics Canada says there are now more millennials than baby boomers in the country, ending the 65-year reign of the post-Second World War generation as the largest cohort in the population. The federal agency noted the change in its population estimate for July 1, 2023, broken down by age and gender released today. The average age in Canada dropped slightly between July 1, 2022 and July 1, 2023 for the first time since 1958. However, Statistics Canada says the number and proportion of people aged 65 years and older have continued to rise. The federal agency says the share of millennials and generation Z is increasing, while the reverse is true for baby boomers and generation X. Those trends have helped increase the share of the working-age population, which increased in 2023 after steadily declining over the previous 15 years. https://lnkd.in/gzhyUER5

As of July 1, 2019 (the latest date for which population estimates are available), Millennials, whom we define as ages 23 to 38 in 2019, numbered 72.1 million, and Boomers (ages 55 to 73) numbered 71.6 million.
