As professionals working to support alternative commuting, we face a common challenge: dealing with decision-makers who fail to understand the needs of countless people who commute to work on bikes or e-bikes as they commute every day with their car. However, we must continue to patiently educate them about the benefits of alternative transportation, not just for individuals but for our cities and communities as a whole. Let's work together to advocate for infrastructure that works for everyone, not just those in cars. #alternativecommuting #sustainability #urbanplanning

Should more companies have #mobility budgets? A mobility budget is a monthly allowance that employees can use for #climate-friendly transport options, ranging from trains and buses to car sharing and e-bikes. They can make sustainable transport more affordable and convenient for employees, helping companies attract and keep stronger talent and improve their reputations. Commuters are already showing growing interest in more sustainable and shared-mobility options. In 2022, Germany offered a 9-euro ticket for all regional and local transport for the summer, which proved very popular. A McKinsey survey conducted in Germany showed that 70% of 9-euro ticket users would increase their public-transit use in the future, even without additional price incentives. Mobility budgets could play a sizable role in #decarbonizing the transport sector, if applied on a large scale. What do you think of this option? Would a mobility budget impact your commuting habits?

🏙️ With so much talk about the 15 minute city, now 20-min city, micro-mobility, e-mobility, intermodal mobility, hybrid living and distributed workforce, there’s no doubt that the shape of our cities is changing worldwide. Not to mention that 2.5bn people will live in cities by 2050! 🚙 Thankfully most countries are already enacting regulations to reduce the number of vehicles on the road to ease congestion and reduce emissions. Well, apart from our current government, that is. Sigh… 😔 Really interesting article by McKinsey & Company on the future of mobility, especially regional trends across the world. #citymaking #mobility #greenliving #placemaking #createurbanfutures

Green commuting, which involves using environmentally friendly modes of transportation such as walking, cycling, carpooling, or taking public transportation, is having an impact on commercial businesses for several reasons. Firstly, as more people choose to commute in eco-friendly ways, there is a decrease in traffic congestion, leading to smoother traffic flow and reduced travel times for employees and customers alike. This can result in increased productivity and efficiency in business operations. Secondly, companies that promote green commuting options for their employees often see improvements in employee satisfaction and retention. Providing incentives for using sustainable transportation methods can boost morale and demonstrate a commitment to environmental responsibility, which can enhance the company's reputation and appeal to environmentally conscious consumers.

General Manager @ AREMIS Belgium - Workplace Solutions | Real Estate | Facility Management Consulting | Talent Sourcing | Workplace Digital Solutions | (Data-)Insight | Real Estate Asset Management Digital Solutions.
In practice, do you take the impact of your mobility habits on the environment sufficiently into account? Take a moment to consider how it is possible to make your small contribution.... Of course, I realise that our mobility is not the only factor with a negative impact on the environment, and that there are many other aspects you can play on, but easily 15% of our carbon footprint is related to it. In addition, accessibility and mobility problems are also one of the reasons why employees prefer to come less to the office after they were all introduced to Hybrid Working as I mentioned in a previous post. We always try to think about our ecological mobility footprint, I hope. Recently, I myself did just that little bit more by actively participating in European Mobility Week in September, see https://lnkd.in/e-KxC7mK. This was not a purely individual initiative, but with the entire AREMIS Group we had set up a real mobility challenge with about ten challenges. Some of these challenges can be catalogued under avoiding/ less travel and shifting/ travel differently, concepts that certain mobility experts also use, cfr Mbrella; Mob Box (acquired by Mbrella). I would like to share some of my personal, non-exhaustive experiences with certain of these challenges, especially the pleasant experiences of the useful efforts made: - Taking public transport and leaving the car in the garage gave me less stress by not having to deal with traffic and traffic jams. I was also able to work safely during those journeys, reviewing documents, answering emails, etc. - Carpooling is not yet very popular as a concept to collectively ensure less environmental impact. But applying it anyway makes the journey a lot less unpleasant because of for instance the chat you can have with each other. - Doing some more 'by walking’ on certain short trajectories or even having a walking meeting - very healthy and also a way of combining the useful with the pleasant! Obviously, there are many other aspects we have to play with, such as the location of living (whether or not you’re depending on using your car) and working (eg multimodal accessibility), which means that we will have to move more and more towards centralised rather than decentralised settings. And the most sustainable act is obviously not to build and use something or keep it efficient/ smaller. #MobilityWeek #Sustainability #CarbonFootprint
