Keen to learn more about the implications regarding the Energy transition? Look no further! I've just seen the first (of 6) videos from DNV's Decoding the energy transition , and wow, they are amazing. The videos will cover everything you need to know about the drivers, challenges, opportunities, and scenarios of the energy transition, and how it affects the energy industry, society, and the environment. Here are three major points to trigger your curiosity (you're welcome 😉 ): 1. The energy transition is speeding up, but not fast enough to meet the Paris Agreement goals. The report says that the global energy demand will peak in 2035, and the share of renewables in the energy mix will reach 69% by 2050. But this will still lead to a 2.3°C warming by the end of the century, way above the 1.5°C target. To achieve the latter, we need a "step change" in the pace and scale of the transition, requiring crazy levels of collaboration, innovation, and policy support. 2. The energy transition is not only about decarbonization, but also about diversification, decentralization, and digitalization. Energy system of the future will be more diverse, with more kinds of energy sources, carriers, and end-uses. It will also be more decentralized, with more local generation, storage, and demand response. And it will be more digitalized, with more data, connectivity, and automation. These trends will create new opportunities and challenges for the energy industry, as well as for the users and producers of energy. 3. The energy transition is not a one-size-fits-all solution, but a context-specific and dynamic process. The energy transition will be different across regions, countries, and sectors, depending on their resources, development, preferences, and policies. Moreover, the energy transition will change over time, as new technologies, markets, and regulations come up and affect the energy system. Therefore, the report warns against relying on a single or static scenario, and instead suggests a flexible and adaptive approach to planning and decision-making. A big kudos to the authors and contributors of the video series who have done an awesome job of decoding the energy transition and given us a great resource and roadmap for the future.
