New Research: "Putting the S in Sustainable Supply Chain Management: A People-Centric Research Agenda" Authors: Mark Pagell and Miriam Wilhelm This study challenges some of the fundamental assumptions in supply chain management research and practice - particularly the current conceptualization of supply chain excellence, which has proven destructive to social-ecological systems. The authors argue that developing new models of supply chain excellence that are sustainable will require changes in the way research is conducted and the topics we study. They also suggest that for this radical change to succeed, SCM researchers must begin to see people. This requires accounting for social sustainability, both in the figurative sense of considering people when making supply chain decisions, and in the literal sense of making the costs of harming or improving social systems visible to managers, regulators, policymakers, and society at large. Based on this vision, the authors outline the active role that SCM scholars can play in developing new human-centered models of supply chain excellence. "Just finished an eye-opening read on sustainable supply chains! I've recently completed 'Green Logistics: Improving the Environmental Sustainability of Logistics' by Alan McKinnon,Michael Browne and @Anthony Whiteing . This book offers crucial insights into making our supply chains more environmentally friendly - a must-read for professionals in logistics, supply chain management, and sustainability roles. Key takeaways: • Innovative strategies for reducing carbon footprint in transportation • The role of reverse logistics in creating circular economies • How technology is driving sustainable practices in warehousing As we face increasing pressure to reduce our environmental impact, this book provides practical solutions that balance ecological concerns with business efficiency. It's certainly reshaped my approach to logistics planning. I have had an opportunity to present the book review, facilitated by Ravindran D. Have you implemented any green logistics practices in your organization? What challenges or successes have you experienced? Let's discuss in the comments! #GreenLogistics #SustainableSupplyChain #EnvironmentalSustainability #LogisticsInnovation #kristujayanticollege

"the job of researchers is to start asking the right questions and not wait for organizations to come up with the right answers, so they can be observed and described." Research on Supply Chain Management can make a difference in the ongoing transition process. See this excellent article that focuses on how researchers and research can proactively help advance this process. "Based on this vision, we develop a people- centric research agenda for SCM. Our agenda has several implications for researchers that we outlined in this disciplined provocation. It entails changes in “how to research” in terms of expanding researchers’ methodological toolbox and engaging in new forms of theorizing. It also entails changes in “what to research” in terms of developing new models of supply chain excellence and exploring how to scale up new, sustainable supply chain models while scaling down existing unsustainable ones. We acknowledge that our people- centric research agenda offers more high- level guidance than specifics. But the job of re- searchers is to start asking the right questions and not wait for organizations to come up with the right answers, so they can be observed and described. Jippii, meidän julkaisu “Julkiset hankinnat ja kiertotalous – Suosituksia päättäjille ja hankintoja johtaville” on nyt julkaistu myös englanniksi. Hienoa, että saatiin tämäkin maaliin. Kiitos Sonja Lankiniemi ja Katriina Alhola 😉 Do you lead or make decisions about procurement? We have published a concise package of recommendations for supporting circular economy procurement. Only 4 pages!! The publication presents the four critical factors identified in our interview study conducted in the Circwaste project, which support the practical implementation of circular economy procurement. These are: Strategic Management: Procurement should be managed strategically and systematically, focusing on the most impactful procurement categories. Communication: Procurement should be communicated both externally and internally to spread new practices and benefits widely. Increasing competence. Those involved in procurement should understand the principles of circular economy procurement. Circular economy changes the traditional procurement approach, emphasizing the need for assessment. Monitoring and Impact: Circular economy procurement should be monitored, and its impact should be evaluated. The short publication also envisions what an organization can achieve by focusing on these areas. If we invest in the circular economy skills of procurement professionals, what can be achieved? How does this sound? “Skilled and motivated experts know how to allocate time and resources to the most impactful circular economy procurements. Experts recognize the need and opportunities for innovative procurement and can communicate the organization’s needs to suppliers. Time and resources are saved when trained staff know where to seek help, as their networks expand through training.” The publication was made in collaboration with Finnish Environment Institute (Syke) - Suomen ympäristökeskus (Syke) https://lnkd.in/dNT44AVa

A much-needed analysis that highlights the multidimensional impact that our supply chains have. A significant portion of our global #ghg emissions reside in our industry supply chains; food (26%), textiles/apparel (4.2%) and more. It is imperative that we establish the business case for the economic benefits realized by driving traceability and sustainability throughout our end-to-end supply chain. The list is long but to name a few... · 5-20% increase in revenue · 10-15% decrease in supply chain costs · US$2Mn average fine avoided for regulatory non-compliance · 2-10% increase in price that consumers are willing to pay Gaining access to #data early and often is a critical component of a connected value chain. The application of #digitalproductpassports and other #digitaltools is underscored by the notion that #technology will enable significant value beyond #regulations. If anyone will be at the Gartner Supply Chain Symposium/Xpo™ 2024 conference next week let's connect!
